Our passion brought the first restaurant to downtown Vancouver in December 2009. Shizen Ya is proud to be the first natural food Japanese restaurant chain in North America which serves sushi with only brown rice, and salad with organic vegetables. We confidently serve you the best food with the best ingredients including homemade stock, genuine Japanese wasabi, and even seasonings.
“I had an amazing experience at Shizenya! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a clean and modern vibe that made it perfect for a relaxed meal. The food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality in every bite, especially their sushi and Japanese dishes, which felt both authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The menu has a great variety, so there’s something for everyone. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. It made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend Shizenya to anyone looking for delicious, high-quality Japanese cuisine in Vancouver. Definitely a 5-star spot that I’ll be coming back to!”
“This is an amazing spot on Robson for Japanese food. You can tell they take the quality of ingredients seriously, they offer organic brown rice, gluten free and dairy free options, and OceanWise seafood. The service was impeccable as well. The food was visually stunning and delicious too. The yuzu margarita wasn’t great, so I can’t speak highly of their drinks menu, but their food menu was absolutely beautiful.”
“After being away for almost a decade, it was great to see Shizenya still making high-quality vegan sushi, with great additions like brown rice. Don’t worry, my carnist friends, there’s plenty of Ocean Wise seafood too, but for this review I’ll focus on the plant-based options. Standouts include the Agedashi Tofu, Deep Fried Eggplant, and Cauliflower Bites, all excellent. The premium sake menu and assortment of Japanese beers are also noteworthy. I tried two of the beers (Sweet Potato Amber Ale & Yuzu Ale) on my last visit and they were SO good. There are desserts for everyone, plus juices as well. Staff are helpful and courteous, the space is super clean and quaint, and overall it’s excellent all around.”
“Have been going here every trip to Vancouver for many, many years. It never disappoints! Food is so fresh, delicious, played beautifully, and a really good value. We always get rolls and have gyoza and tempura before. This visit we had the aburo salmon roll, geisha girls roll, sakura blossom roll, natural bomber roll, spicy tuna, and a dynamite roll. All were fantastic. Favorites were the aburi, the Sakura and the geisha girls rolls. The brown rice gives them such a nice texture too. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. You can make reservations online if you want but we have been able to walk in too.”
“All the noodle and rice bowels are organic. As you may expect, it is bland in flavor and not the typical Japanese food. Great for organic food lover, though.”
