Junzushi is an omakase sushi restaurant which aims to serve sushi that brings out the full potential of local and Japanese seafood. By applying traditional techniques (based on edomaezushi) and ideas of other regional sushi restaurants of Japan (restaurants that make sushi using local techniques/seafood specific to their region), we hope to be able to express the true potential of each ingredient and create sushi that is truly unique to “Junzushi.”
“Junzushi is the number one omakase in Vancouver for authenticity and quality yet better priced than its competitors. The chef has trained in a top regarded sushi restaurant in Tokyo and his dedication to the enjoyment of his guests is unmatched. He imports top quality ingredients from Japan but yet keeps his prices below his competitors. While others are using farmed tuna from Mexico, he imports line caught wild tuna from top tuna brokers. His rice and vinegar accentuates the quality of the fish extravagantly. He also has the best beverage list that is filled with very well priced wines and sake to compliment the courses. He gets top quality, difficult to fine sake rather than get generic luxury bottles and up charge to the moon. I am not sure why this place has no Michelin stars when it is by far the most authentic experience in Vancouver.”
“The entrance of this restaurant is on the main road and very simple looking. The decor inside is also very minimalist and Japanese style. The service was attentive and the chef knows what he’s doing. The food was delicious and fresh. It was $200 per person plus any drinks and extra sushi that you may order. The restaurant can only fit 10 people so make sure to book early. The restaurant was quiet and everyone spoke quietly within their group. Everyone was sat in front of the chef so it was an intimate setting.”
“Exquisite. High end wild fish not farmed like many other places. Incredible service, meticulous minimalist environment and every detail thought of. Chef Andrew was kind, friendly, and meditative in making the sushi. Very traditional omakase style, the fish has no smell and is well maintained. He will undoubtedly receive at least a Michelin star for 5 star food, service, ambiance, flexibility, and cleanliness some time in the near future. If it is in your budget or you want to spoil yourself or someone, do yourself a favor and give yourself this experience.”
“A reservation-only, private space — the moment you step inside, it feels as if you’ve been transported straight to Japan. As you sit at the single-piece hinoki counter, the gentle scent of the wood and the calm, dignified air make you naturally sit up straight. I’ve visited many omakase sushi restaurants in Japan, but I never imagined I could experience such authentic and beautiful sushi here in Canada. It truly feels like being in Japan. Andrew, the owner and chef, is without a doubt the finest sushi master in Vancouver. Through his hands, it’s as if each piece of fish is given life once again — every bite shines with quiet vitality. His passion and sincerity toward the art of sushi are deeply moving, and I hold great respect for his craftsmanship. The sake selection was also perfect, allowing me to enjoy the harmony with each sushi like a beautiful pairing. Sushi, sake, and the warm yet serene atmosphere created a moment of pure happiness. Whenever I miss Japan, this is the place I will always return to.”
“This is my first time having omakase I would say overall it's solid not amazing. I think at $150 it's still worth it if you are wanting to try out omakase without spending $300+ like in other places. The good: Very attentive waitress (tea was refilled almost instantly) Fresh and quality ingredient though only a couple nigiris truly blew me away I always appreciate minimalist design and the restaurant interior is on point Areas for improvement: The helper (sous chef) looked very awkward, he doesn't seem very natural when interacting with guests. After having 3 pieces of bluefin tuna nigiris (chutoro, otoro, akami) we were given a negitoro handroll... I mean, really? Do you not have any other item available? The mochi dessert was not for me, it was tasteless, not sure what's even the point for the powder and syrup as they didn't help, I overheard people next to me saying it's a bit weird too.”
