For nearly 25 years, Sushi Kaji has been at the forefront of "Omakase" experience in Toronto, offering one of the most authentic sushi in the country. Chef Kaji only selects the freshest, highest-quality fish and ingredients to craft the best course everyday. To ensure the best experience, we highly recommend booking your reservation in advance. Please note that we offer “Omakase course” as the primary dining experience, no à la carte options will be available. Additionally, we are unable to accommodate custom menus for guests who do not consume raw seafood. Come experience sushi as if you were in Japan, prepared by Chef Kaji himself.
“Kaji Sushi delivered one of the most extraordinary dining experiences we’ve ever had. If there were a way for it to earn three Michelin stars — or more — it would deserve them without hesitation. From the moment the evening began, everything felt impeccably planned and executed with remarkable precision. The pacing of the courses was perfect, creating a rhythm that allowed every dish to be fully appreciated without ever feeling rushed or delayed. It truly felt like a carefully orchestrated culinary journey. The quality of the fish was simply exceptional. The toro was the best we’ve ever tasted — impossibly rich, buttery, and perfectly balanced. The octopus was equally memorable: tender, delicate, and prepared with such finesse that it completely redefined what octopus can be. Every piece of sushi showcased purity, craftsmanship, and respect for the ingredient. The sake pairing elevated the experience even further. It was hands down the best sake we’ve ever had, thoughtfully selected to complement each moment of the meal. What made the evening truly special, though, was the passion and authenticity of the team. The staff conveyed such care, knowledge, and pride in what they do. You could feel that every detail — from the sourcing of the fish to the sequencing of the courses — had been deeply considered. Dining here felt less like a meal and more like an immersive experience in Japanese culinary artistry. Every element worked in harmony to create something truly memorable. An outstanding experience from beginning to end. One of those rare meals you continue thinking about long after you leave.”
“Welcoming and friendly service - very attentive to all guests. The Omakase offering was very worth every penny. The timing and execution is perfect and the quality of fish and food was terrific. I adore everything the shop stands for and the roots. It doesn't try to be something else but authentically them. Everything is described as to what you're eating and a great 2hr+ service. You will guaranteed be very full by the end of it.”
“What a wonderful meal and experience. We celebrated my spouse’s 60th birthday here, and after an “okay” experience at Alobar Downtown, this was well worth it. “You get what you pay for”… this saying encapsulates Sushi Kaji, as the sashimi/omakase meal was fantastic. Everything was fresh and tasty (Octopus from Morocco, Wagyu beef from Kagoshima and so on). I highly recommend spending the money and enjoying such wonderful dining. And Chef Mitsuhiro does his best to have fun if you are dining at the counter. (Note: the 60th was there. I was too late, and my spouse too eager, to capture it when dessert arrived).”
“What an amazing experience from start to finish. Intimate setting with only 20 or so seats and 2 seatings per evening. Attentive service, three choices of omakase to pick from. We opted for the full omakase and every bite was a delight from textures to flavours and the beautiful display. I suggest you sit at the counter or face it to watch the chefs in action to get the full experience.”
“Sushi Kaji was worthwhile experience for our friend's birthday celebration. The menu provided a very large portion of select Japanese delicacies for the group with a couple omakase options to suit everyone's preference. There was plenty of nigiri complemented by appetizers and sashimi or sukiyaki if you selected a premium option. They offered complimentary hojicha tea which was perfectly brewed. Every item was prepared with so much care and efficiency by all of the restaurant staff. The squid and tuna were phenomenal and some of the best we've had. Everything else was good but after being to Japan and Vancouver, we have had comparable or better quality at other higher end sushi restaurants. As a larger group we also unfortunately could not sit at the counter which felt a bit less exciting than the counter seats where the other customers got to interact with the chef. Either way, it is definitely worth trying if you are interested in omakase, but the experience may not be for everyone.”
