“We stayed at The Baker House in Lake Geneva for Halloween weekend, and it was such a memorable experience. Not only were we celebrating Halloween, but it was also a birthday celebration, which made the stay feel extra special. One of the highlights was having an entire floor of suites to ourselves, which added a sense of privacy and exclusivity that we really appreciated. The views of the lake were fascinating, especially on such a sunny winter day—peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The rooms are wonderfully nostalgic, truly reminiscent of classic old mansions with a lot of character and history. It’s worth noting that this is more of an Airbnb-style stay rather than a high-end luxury suite you’d typically find in a big city hotel. Room services is simple and not comparable to full service offerings at Big City hotels as this is a smaller more boutique style stay. The charm here is in the ambiance, history, and uniqueness of the property. We also enjoyed a wonderful meal during our stay, and everything was cooked to perfection. The food was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely elevated the experience. Overall, it was a charming, cozy, and memorable Halloween and birthday weekend with incredible views, great food, and a truly unique atmosphere. We would definitely recommend The Baker House to anyone looking for a historic and intimate stay in Lake Geneva.”
“Our first visit to Baker House for Easter brunch felt like stepping into another era. Originally built in 1885 as a 30-room Queen Anne summer mansion, the home still carries its historic charm, and once inside, you’re instantly transported back in time with its beautifully preserved dining rooms. We were lucky enough to be seated on the heated four-season porch, which offered stunning, floor-to-ceiling views of Lake Geneva and made the experience feel extra special. The brunch featured three buffet stations—salads and appetizers, main entrées in the bar area and desert bar in the hallway. However, the entrées themselves were a bit underwhelming, with several dishes served lukewarm. The deserts were bite sized but some were pretty sugary. Overall, Buffets are hard to perfect! I would go back and try their regular menu.Reservations are made through Tock and are prepaid, with a 21% service charge plus and order fee included, so it’s something to keep in mind before booking. NOT refundable! TONS of Hats for Customers to try on and pose for pictures. Private parking lot!”
“We came here for my boyfriend’s birthday and the restaurant itself is honestly BEAUTIFUL. The different rooms, the vibe, and the lake views are amazing — definitely a really cool spot. Our waitress was also super friendly, patient, and nice the whole time. The food is where things fell short. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and it was actually perfect, no complaints at all. But my boyfriend ordered a steak medium well and it came out very rare — super red and basically dripping with every cut. The mashed potatoes were cold and the asparagus was really chewy. We waited a few minutes for the waitress to come back, and since it was pretty slow, I went to look for her but she was behind the bar so I didn’t want to interrupt. My boyfriend ended up getting her attention and she did take the plate back. At first she said she had to check the ticket, which was a little confusing because we knew what we ordered, but once she saw the mistake she did fix it. She offered him a drink and a dessert which we appreciated, and she was very nice about it. However, when the steak came back, it was still pink. At that point he didn’t want to complain again so he didn’t really eat it. The mashed potatoes did come back hot and were really good though. Overall, the place itself is amazing and the service was friendly, but the food — especially for how long it took and how slow it was — just didn’t meet expectations. It was a birthday dinner so we were hoping for a better experience.”
“I made a reservation expecting a nicer steakhouse experience, but the overall experience did not justify the cost. The first issue was that the dinner menu on the website did not match what was actually available. I originally planned my order ahead of time based on the online menu, including Oscar style, only to find out it was unavailable. Specials were also never explained to me by my server. I only learned there was a New York strip special after overhearing another server mention it to another table, so I changed my order. When I asked what came with the steak, I was told garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. I declined the mashed potatoes and kept the asparagus. After waiting about 30 minutes, my food arrived without the asparagus and instead came with a creamy corn/spinach side that was never discussed or offered. Pricing for the special was also never clearly communicated. The food itself was fine, but nothing memorable, especially for the price. The bigger issue was the experience. No complimentary bread or starter was offered during my visit, and when I requested butter, I was given individually packaged butter, which felt out of place for the price point and overall expectations of a steakhouse experience. The service felt disorganized, communication was poor, and there was little service recovery. When asked how everything was, I was honest that I was not satisfied, but nothing meaningful was done beyond eventually taking $10 off for the missing asparagus. In the end, the only thing I really ate was what looked like a 6–8 oz steak, as the promised side was missing and the substitute was not something I wanted. For a final bill of about $58 after the adjustment, the value simply was not there. This was less about the food tasting bad and more about the overall experience not matching the cost or expectations. I would not return or recommend this place. There are likely less expensive restaurants nearby that provide a better overall dining experience, so I would skip this one.”
“Absolutely horrendous dinner service. Had a reservation planned months prior for a dinner for a bachelorette party, was promised we could be accommodated as a larger party. Service was incredibly slow- they were out of a lot of things on the menu but weren't sure until after we had placed our orders. About half of us had to go with our 2nd and sometimes 3rd choice for food. We did not get our food until almost 2 hours into the reservation. Wait staff did not offer an explanation, apology, or offer to comp anything for our trouble. One waiter did finally ask how the food was towards the end of our visit , when I told him our concerns of the slow service, mediocre yet incredibly over priced food, his answer was "may I clear your plates?". Not an apology, not - oh I will let the manager know, nothing. When the bill came - they charged a surcharge to debit card users. When questioned about it they argued it's on any card use which is completely inaccurate. They did pay me the fee back at least before I left. The whole experience put a huge damper on what was supposed to be an evening of fun and celebration. I will never go back and I will activity recommend any other place in the area over this one.”
