“Service at The Top was outstanding. We had some special requests and they were accommodating. The sea bass was out of this world delicious. While the interior ambiance is a bit antiquated, the exterior patio is chic and modern. We recommend.”
“Winter at The Top Winter calls for a hearty meal, a meal to hold you and sing to you and get you through the frigid cold…something familiar that tells you, “It’s all okay baby”. What’s more comforting and classic than steak and potatoes? Yes, we’ve been here before. If you are looking for classic elegance without breaking the bank look no further than The Top Steakhouse in Bexley. Let me first disclose, I’m a sucker for any bygone era and evoke a certain anywhere but here attitude wherever I roam so trust me when I somewhat bias-ly say The Top is sure to delight. This 1950s showstopper of a steakhouse is sure to impress dates and out of towners alike. I dressed in my favorite psychedelic mini dress with matching turquoise earrings and turquoise eyeliner for the occasion thinking the decor would be straight from the set of Mad Men. To my surprise the facility does 1980s opulence tastefully. Think mirrors, chrome, dark walls, mood lighting, and oversized light fixtures. When I say mood lighting, I mean mood lighting and in case that wasn’t romantic enough, live piano music echoes through the quaint establishment. Now that decors out of the way, let’s talk dinner. The menu boasts “world famous onion rings” while I am not sure what makes them so famous the crisp outer shell revealed a soft, plump onion, perfect for dipping in the complimentary ketchup provided. On to the mains, we’re at a steakhouse. . .don’t be silly…get the steak. The filet mignon was worth every penny—a sexy, juicy, buttery cut of meat wrapped in bacon. Certainly not for the faint of heart. If steaks not your things the menu offers pork chops, chicken, and ribs which I’ve heard others rave about. Now sides can be tricky at steakhouses as you often settle for a subtle salad or a plain potato. I skipped the old favorites and opted for the seasonal brown sugar glazed rainbow carrots and mac and cheese. The carrots were seasonal, tender, and sweet, and the Mac n cheese was above par, bonus points for the crispy gooey outer crust. Be warned these fancier sides do come at a premium. My dining partner for the evening, however, indulged in the salad and potato option which won presentation points in my book. Not long after the baked potato arrived our waitress ran to the table with a handheld contraption of butter and sour cream which she liberally applied to the potato upon my partner’s request. At last, the potato was whole adorned with its usual accoutrement. If you’re looking for a romantic date night, a true lover of American cuisine, or have someone to impress—The Top is your answer. Give it a go and let me know what you think!”
“We visited Ohio on a business trip again. We showed up a little bit after 7 o’clock, dining room was packed, 1hr plus wait, so we sat at the bar. If we arrived four minutes later, there would’ve been no seating at the bar whatsoever, So, Dave and I had a fantastic meal, Dave’s porterhouse, medium was fantastic so full of flavor, my ribeye steak cooked medium as well was packed with flavor. I mentioned to our waiter which happened to be David as well, this was pretty much by far the most flavorful, tastiest steak we’ve had between Ohio and Connecticut. Hey, our compliments to the chef for sure. I had a couple glasses of cab, also finished off the evening with a crème brûlée, which was decent. Overall, I have to give them props for a steak that was loaded with flavor and cooked to perfect perfection.”
“Food was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly and it was excellent quality beef. Drinks were well-made and did not skimp on the alcohol. Service was exceptionally slow, though it could have been due to coming during restaurant week. Also had to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time for the table to be ready.”
“Went to check out to see what all the buzz was about. Can definitely say it has quite the nice atmosphere. Love pianist by the bar inside and a very comfortable shaded patio outside. Quickly got a table and the portions on all the food was very generous. Had enough leftovers for another meal later. Onion rings were biggest I've even seen and had a perfect crunch to them. The steak was very thick and the truffle butter was very flavorful. Concerns were twofold. Firstly the staffing was a bit shorthanded, they only had one waiter for the entire outdoor patio, so wait times were a bit longer than expected. However. The server was very knowledgeable and friendly when he was at the table so that definitely helped. Second is that the steak was cooked incorrectly at first. The waiter confirmed I asked for medium rare but it was brought out blue rare. He apologized and said it was a known issue with the ticketing system, which was a bit of a letdown they didn't take particular care to avoid this happening. The table next to me also had the same issue. He did get it cooked correctly and comped me a desert for the trouble so he did the best he could with a bad situation.”
