Understory - Columbus

“Understory does what they do really well. At a glance, it looks like nice cocktails and some bar snacks but every dish we had was so good. We started off with the Pretzel and Brussels Sprouts which were good but it only got better. The cheese curds were delightful, and the barbecue pork sliders and Wagyu burger were delicious. Very friendly, pleasant service. Nice cocktails and wines by the glass. A really charming cozy space. Look forward to coming back when it’s warmer to sit outside. I would give it a 4.5+ across the board.”

“We loooove photographing weddings at Understory! The combination of architecture, natural elements, and thoughtful details creates such an elevated atmosphere that photographs incredibly well. We also love how versatile the space is throughout a wedding day, from intimate moments to larger celebrations. The staff was professional, kind, and wonderful to work with from start to finish. We would absolutely recommend Understory to couples looking for a stylish and unforgettable wedding venue!”

“Such a great experience at The Understory in Columbus. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating with us and our dog. The space itself is really unique—tucked away, quiet, and perfect if you want to actually relax and have a conversation. The outdoor area is especially cool and adds to that secluded vibe. They have live music Wednesday nights, so we will be back to check that out. Also loved the beer fridge featuring options from Wolf’s Ridge Brewing. Great mix if you’re into local craft beer. Definitely a spot we’ll come back to when we want something low-key but still special in Columbus! Norman approves! 🐾”

“Finally came to this beautiful basement restaurant after a winter storm. The dining room was beautiful with lovely decorations. WiFi was fast. Some board games were provided. The patio was covered by snow. We ordered a cheeseburger and a buffalo chicken sandwich with side salad. The salad dressing tasted too sour for me. The burger was juicy with a medium temperature beef patty. But I got sort of allergic to it, probably because of something in the patty. The buffalo chicken was good to me with crispy fried chicken. The food was a little disappointing to me compared with this lovely vibe where I could stay for a whole day.”

“Okay. So me and my dear dear friends planned to come for a celebratory dinner for my friend who is a nurse because it is nurse appreciation week. Our server was... adequate. Each question we had she seemed very bothered. The appetizers were good but our entrees were underwhelming considering the price point. I've had much better for less. My friends kale salad was unmassaged and unseasoned (as in it did not come with the dressing). And the dressing itself was also underwhelming and by that i mean nonexistent. When we kindly asked for dressing she made a snide comment about it and then the kitchen took forever to bring the dressing. The only reason i am so very critical is for the uppity price point. The service should match the price. Additionally we had no water for about 20 minutes while we were eating. We tipped well because we all have worked in the service industry at some point but i think Others should be warned this was quite underwhelming.”
