Ulele (pronounced you-lay-lee) celebrates the vibrant fusion of ingredients from Florida waters and land once home to many Native Americans, including the legendary young princess Ulele. Located on the Hillsborough River in Tampa Heights, 400 yards from the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. Indoor and outdoor waterfront dining. Lunch and dinner daily. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Featuring intricately flavored, visually appealing dishes prepared on our 10' round barbacoa grill. Ulele operates in the lovingly re-imagined 1903 Tampa Heights Water Works building, which also includes its Ulele Spring Brewery to provide a number of craft beers on tap. Next door to Water Works Park. Casual attire is fine, but we don’t allow sleeveless shirts on men in the indoor dining rooms.
“Had a great experience sat on the outside bar when it started to rain the bartender I believe his name was Trevor who's my drinks to the inside. The inside bar staff was very attentive. Can I order the seafood risotto which came out wonderfully and the green beans were slightly Al Dente just like I like them. I moved back to the outside bar for dinner it was a nice atmosphere my only suggestion is you need more of an overhang because the outside bar and chairs were soaked another two or three feet is a simple change. Even though the building may be historic it seems like the additionl of the outside bar should have a different code. Thanks to the outside bartender that provided great service.”
“This was my second time dining at Ulele’s and was still as remarkable as the first time. Recognized by the Michelin Guide, not sure how or why it doesn’t have a star yet, I know I always get the star treatment when dining there. The building is an old pump house that has been beautifully repurposed into an immersive experience right on the Hillsborough River in the heart of River Walk. The food is meticulously prepared and just punches way above what you expect (which is pretty high to begin with). Try the Okra fries, especially if you think you don’t like Okra. Honestly the best preparation of Okra I’ve ever had should be the model for more people in how Okra should be served on a large scale. For a restaurant that’s family-owned and on the fifth generation of locally owned restaurants, including the famed Columbia restaurant, the formula they figured out is still working. If you’re in the Tampa area, don’t miss this gem.”
“Visited here with my parents. The restaurant is very spacious with lots of outdoor and indoor seats. We chose to seat inside for cooler temperature since it was bit hot outside. Bella was the server for our table. She was very helpful in giving recs and managing an issue when wrong food came out. She definitely made our restaurant experience more delightful! In terms of food, we ordered half dozen raw oysters, calamari, seafood risotto, and chef’s steak with drinks. I really like how every food was seasoned well and NOT salty and heavy at all! Oysters were really big and juicy that i havent seen before! Seafood like shrimps, lobster, and scallop were food in quality and well-cooked! For steak, i chose chef to determine doneness and it was perfect! Soft, juicy, and moist!!! Honestly, I didn’t have much expectation from this restaurant. Now i am glad i found this gem! I saved this place so i can visit here again when Im visiting Tampa next time”
“We went for our 1st time last night & our server Liz was absolutely amazing. She was so kind and attentive. We were celebrating our birthdays and didn’t want to make a big deal about it, but since she asked if we were celebrating anything, we told her. She brought over some chocolates & cards at the end that she even customized with certain phrases for us. So sweet! The charbroiled oysters….. soooooo good!!! I would go back just for those 😩 We had short ribs and mashed potatoes which were pretty good, would’ve loved more gravy as that was where the flavor was. & also the grilled chicken with risotto. The flavor of the risotto was good, but it had that gritty, crunchy texture & the spinach had no flavor what so ever. I do know if we would’ve voiced our opinion more they probably would’ve done something about it. Overall we did enjoy the visit, but the 4 stars is for the price of everything. In our opinion, it’s a bit overpriced for what we got.”
“Super location!! A place where you can go with your children and sip your drink comfortably :) There is plenty of seating area. There is a separate mini bar outside, live music in the evening was a bonus for us. However, they played music that was a bit heavy for the atmosphere, I think they should have played it softer :) When the place is so popular, the waiting line becomes quite long. We waited outside for 45 minutes for a seat, but this did not cause us any problems. We had a drink outside and enjoyed the music and the atmosphere, then went to dinner. Of course, we waited for our food for more than 20 minutes, but I think this is understandable at this intensity. Cocktails were very successful. I chose my wine from $5 per bottle, donated to animal hospital, I don't remember the name.🙈 The food was successful, but what came on the side were burnt things that were not even clear what they were!! The ice cream was very successful both in its presentation and taste. Having its own parking lot is wonderful. U.le.le gained a new customer. :)”
