Welcome to our grounds, our tasting room, and our vineyards. Our staff is on hand to guide you through your tasting experience, providing you with information on our sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking practices. The Wiemer estate spans 90 acres of prime vineyard sites on the western slopes of Seneca Lake and the wines are among the most acclaimed in the region. Hospitality and education are at the heart of our Tasting Room experience and sharing our wine and knowledge with you is our most important goal. Reservations are your best bet to ensure that you have the full educational tasting experience, but for those looking for a more impromptu or spur-of-the-moment affair, we offer wines by the glass and preset, self-guided flights to enjoy on the property! Founded in 1979, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is a pioneer of viticulture and winemaking in the Finger Lakes. We invite you to discover the transcendent terroir of the Finger Lakes Region. Estate fruit is hand-harvested and hand-sorted, and vineyard qualities are worked in small lots and then blended to create wines of balance and texture. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts to ensure each wine embodies the truest expression of site. Our commitment to place draws on the same forward-thinking techniques and respect for the past that has fueled our mission since Hermann’s first block of Riesling was planted over forty years ago.
“An outstanding tasting experience from start to finish. I highly recommend booking an appointment ahead of time — the personalized experience is absolutely worth it. Our server did an excellent job asking about our preferences, explaining the history of the winery, and sharing insights into the soil and climate that shape these wines. Rather than simply walking us through a lineup, they listened to our feedback and helped guide us through the tasting based on what we enjoyed. I was specifically on the hunt for Rieslings, as this is truly Riesling country, and Hermann J. Wiemer delivered. I tend to gravitate toward more mineral-driven Rieslings, and I loved the HJW Riesling. The Gewürztraminer was also a standout. The wines showed the elegance, balance, and complexity I look for, with characteristics that reminded me of the Alsace-style Rieslings I enjoy. What stood out most was the combination of exceptional wines and thoughtful hospitality. This is exactly what a wine tasting experience should be — educational, welcoming, and tailored to the guest. A must-visit in the Finger Lakes.”
“I’ve been a fan of HJW for years as their wines and service are always top notch. I recently placed an online order and had the pleasure of working with Maris and she made the whole experience outstanding. She really took the time to understand what I was looking for, gave expert-level recommendations, was fully transparent on pricing, and made everything simple and easy to navigate. I ended up ordering two cases! Great people like Maris define HJW--they go above and beyond!”
“I always said I don’t care for Riesling then I visited Hermann J Wiemer…now…delightful. We came during Winter months and will need to come back when it’s warmer to see more of the outdoor aspect. Staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and more than accommodating. Loved our visit there. Thank you!”
“Great wines, great service. Loved this tasting format to order as you wish with 2.5onces. A choose your own adventure. We enjoyed the rieslings and extra brut”
“We had a positive experience, and my friend especially loved it here. She works in hospitality and has pretty high standards when it comes to wine, so this was a must-visit for her while we were in town. They primarily offer drier wines, but I appreciated that there were a few sweet to semi-sweet options too. My personal favorites were the NS Riesling Josef 2016 dessert wine (tastes like honey!), the Riesling Late Harvest 2023, and the Riesling Semi-Dry 2023. I ended up buying bottles of the two Rieslings to take home. The staff was excellent—very knowledgeable and incredibly patient with all of my friend’s (many) questions. The atmosphere had a modern, rustic vibe that was very inviting. If you're a wine connoisseur, this might be a great stop for you. It wasn’t a perfect match for my palate, but I still had a great time and found a couple wines I really liked!”
