“We had such a great first visit to Barbacoa to celebrate a birthday. All I did was put a tiny mention in our reservation notes (which, in our experience, is typically not even noticed by various places), and the LOVELY folks at Barbacoa treated us like VIPs for our entire meal! It was so kind and special. For instance, they set a printed birthday card on our table before we arrived that had been personally signed by the whole crew. Beyond these sweet personal touches, everything we had was excellent. Do NOT skip the carrots and peas for any reason! I am already thinking about the next time I can have that dish again. The hongos in mole were also a big hit. Can’t wait to come back! What a great place. Also — three drinks (1 cocktail, 1 NA cocktail, 1 sparkling water), one app, two entrees, and one bonbon = less than $100. Admittedly with tip, our total was over $100 but not by much. These days, that’s a really good value.”

“First time, 2 blocks from our house. Ellie(?) was amazing, great service, food and atmosphere. The queso was excellent, the flank steak was outstanding, the spicy sauce accompanying flank steak made it even better. The tres leche cake incredible. Drinks were very nice. Very impressed with Barbacoa, would consider to be high end Mexican fare, prepared perfectly to order. We’ll be back, especially for the flank steak entree. We made reservations 3 days out. Enjoy!”

“My wife and I were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our anniversary, and Barbacoa absolutely delivered. From the second we stepped inside the cozy spot on Troost, we knew we’d picked the right place. The vibe is intimate and warm, perfect for a date night that feels elevated but still totally relaxed. The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive. She made great recommendations and checked on us just the right amount, never rushed, never hovering. It made the whole evening feel effortless and special. We started with cocktails, and they were fantastic. Creative, well-balanced, and the perfect way to kick things off. Then came the food, and every single dish was excellent. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and everything is cooked with such obvious care. We were both blown away by how delicious it all was. We left smiling, full, and already talking about when we can come back. Barbacoa is now firmly on our “must-return” list in Kansas City. If you’re looking for a memorable meal (especially for a special occasion), do yourself a favor and book a table. You won’t regret it. I recommend getting a reservation, but it was also a busy weekend.”
