Miller Union takes its name from the historic Miller Union Stockyards, which once spanned an entire city block in Atlanta’s 1880s meatpacking district. Housed in a thoughtfully refurbished warehouse, the restaurant was established in 2009 by Steven Satterfield and Neal McCarthy and has since become a beloved fixture in Atlanta’s culinary scene. Known for its unwavering commitment to sustainability, Miller Union works closely with local farmers and producers, earning it a place on numerous top 100 lists across the nation. In 2017, Steven Satterfield was honored as “Best Chef: Southeast” by the James Beard Foundation. The restaurant was also a James Beard Foundation Awards finalist for “Outstanding Wine Program” in 2019 and 2020, and Executive Pastry Chef Claudia Martinez was recognized as a 2022 finalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef. Most recently, Miller Union received accolades from The Michelin Guide for "Best Service" and as a "Recommended Restaurant." The cuisine is best described as "contemporary Southern," with a strong focus on seasonal vegetables and innovative preparations that highlight their natural flavors.
“Miller Union is a fantastic spot in ATL that was recommended to me from friends in NJ. The service is impeccable, the food was divine (the fish of the day meal was delicious and the charcuterie and carrots were standouts) and the wine and spirit list was fantastic. I knocked a star off for atmosphere due to the table placement in a small vestibule very close to the other tables. It was hard to enjoy the space, the rest of which was beautiful, light and airy. I work in F&B so I do understand the need to maximize space but these tables are a bit of a letdown”
“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seasonal Perfection: The Elevated Southern Soul of Miller Union- If you want to experience the absolute best of Georgia’s seasonal harvest, Miller Union is the undisputed champion. Located in a refurbished warehouse in West Midtown’s old meatpacking district, it has spent over a decade defining "Modern Southern" dining. This isn't just a restaurant; it’s a masterclass in intentionality, led by James Beard Award-winning Chef Steven Satterfield and Michelin Service Award-winner Neal McCarthy. The Atmosphere: Rustic Sophistication The design perfectly mirrors the menu: rustic, refined, and deeply rooted in history. • The Space: Exposed brick, warm wood, and industrial steel create a vibe that is upscale yet incredibly comfortable. It manages to capture that elusive "Southern Calm," making it perfect for a professional power lunch or an intimate, high-end dinner. • The Service: There is a reason Neal McCarthy won the Michelin Service Award. The front-of-house team is flawless—intuitive and professional without ever feeling intrusive. The Food: A Tribute to the Harvest Chef Satterfield is renowned for his "root-to-leaf" philosophy, putting vegetables on equal footing with premium proteins. • Farm-Baked Egg in Celery Cream: This is the iconic, "don't-leave-without-it" starter. Served with crisp rustic bread, it is rich, velvety, and the ultimate comfort dish. • The Entrees: Whether it's the crisp Pork Schnitzel or the Seared Duck Breast with blueberry mostarda, every protein is elevated by the seasonal produce that surrounds it. The Grand Finale: Incredible Desserts You must save room for dessert. Under the direction of James Beard semifinalist Claudia Martinez, the pastry program is a destination in its own right. • The Ice Cream Sandwich: A lunch-only legend. These change daily (think Buttermilk or Fennel) and feature two perfectly pliable cookies that provide the ultimate "toothsome bite." • Banoffee Pie: A decadent blend of peanut brittle, banana, and graham cracker that is sophisticated yet nostalgic. • The Signature Blondie: A Michelin-highlighted favorite, often topped with seasonal fruit compote and house-made ice cream. • Lemon Chess Tart: A Southern classic refined with toasted meringue and almond—bright, tangy, and light. Pro-Tips for Your Visit: 1. Lunch is a Secret Weapon: If you can’t snag a dinner reservation, their lunch service is one of the best in the city—and the only way to get that famous ice cream sandwich. 2. Wine Pairing: Neal McCarthy’s wine list is heavy on small, sustainable producers. Trust the staff; their pairings are consistently educational and spot-on. 3. Reservations: As a Michelin-recommended spot, booking via Resy well in advance is essential. Bottom line: Miller Union is a cornerstone of the Atlanta culinary scene. It proves that when you treat ingredients with respect and guests with genuine warmth, you create something truly timeless. #MillerUnion #WestMidtownATL #FarmToTable #JamesBeardChef #MichelinGuideATL #SeasonalDining #ClaudiaMartinez #SouthernDesserts #AtlantaFoodie #RootToLeaf”
“We love this place. Everything is always on point. Our server, Laura Lee, was amazing as was the service from the others as well - management was present and engaged, the hosts were attentive and kind, and the food was perfect. We recently went for valentines day. The chicken was so moist, the beef was perfectly cooked, the biscuit for the duo tasting was phenomenal. Dessert was delicious - my only complaint is we wanted more of it. We got the strawberry merengue thing and the cheese desserts and they were sooo good. The cheese with the rose petals was crazy amazing. They packed our 6 bites of leftovers with care and wrote descriptions on them. We love this place. Chefs kiss from Start to finish as usual.”
“I visited Miller Union during a recent trip to Atlanta, and it turned out to be one of those restaurants that quietly exceeds expectations. There’s nothing flashy about the experience, yet everything feels intentional—from the warm atmosphere to the carefully prepared food. What stood out most was the restaurant’s commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu felt thoughtfully curated, and every dish highlighted natural flavors rather than relying on heavy sauces or complicated techniques. You get the sense that the kitchen truly respects the ingredients it works with, and that simplicity becomes part of the charm. The dining room has a relaxed, welcoming energy that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening. The service matched that feeling perfectly. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations without making the experience feel overly formal. One tip for first-time visitors is to keep an open mind when ordering. Some of the most memorable dishes may not be the ones that immediately catch your attention on the menu. If you're visiting during a busy weekend, making a reservation ahead of time is definitely a good idea. Overall, Miller Union offers a refreshing reminder that great dining doesn't have to be extravagant. With thoughtful cooking, excellent service, and a comfortable atmosphere, it's a place I'd gladly return to whenever I'm back in Atlanta.”
“Very hyped and overrated. We got the recommendation for Miller Union from a restaurant manager who had a lot of praise for it. When we saw the menu we were excited, it seemed diverse and sophisticated - something new. Service was excellent, nothing to complain here. But the food and also the wines were mediocre at best - below average for a place like this. Everything tasted a bit like something from an airport lounge, the atmosphere underlined this feeling. The soup was just salty and tasted not homemade, the smoked grouper hushpuppies, with 21$ not cheap: dry, bland and with an amateur looking veggie deco on top. The farm egg was also absolutely bland, texture watery - just question marks in our heads what the chef wanted to achieve with this dish. The biggest disappointment was the offered vegetable plate (consisting of all veggie sides): presentation of this dish as if we picked it from a buffet, overcooked and nothing special. And with 34$ (!) the most expensive veggie plate we have ever eaten - especially when you compare to meat dishes on the menu.”
