The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant

“After hearing my neighbor rave about this place like it was the second coming of fine dining, we finally decided to check it out. The restaurant itself is gorgeous — the kind of space that immediately whispers “fancy date night” the moment you walk in. But that’s just the warm‑up act. If you head toward the back and up the Restoration Hardware‑looking staircase, you’ll find the veranda overlooking the courtyard — and that’s where the magic really happens. This courtyard is something I’d expect to see in Southeast Asia, not in Chicago where every square foot costs the price of a small organ. It’s lush, serene, and somehow both grand and cozy. Honestly, I can see someone getting married out there. It’s that stunning. Now, the food? Fantastic. I started with a gin cocktail that went down dangerously smooth — and I say that as someone who used to bartend. Then came the lobster bisque, which shocked me because I usually avoid lobster bisque like the overly salty trap it tends to be. But this one? Perfectly seasoned, with a buttery, crispy top that made me rethink my entire stance on bisque. We ordered the salmon next, and let me tell you: no fish smell. None. Zero. Nada. That alone deserves a standing ovation in Chicago. The skin was crispy, the flesh tender, and you could tell the chef took the time to baste it properly with hot oil. It tasted like someone in the kitchen actually cared. My husband had the fish and chips, and once again, I was pleasantly surprised. I’m used to the London‑pub version — crispy, yes, but not exactly memorable. This one? Flavorful, balanced, and genuinely good. I didn’t even know fish and chips could taste like that. And the timing? Impeccable. Every dish came out at the perfect moment — no long waits, no awkward gaps, no “did they forget about us?” energy. Just smooth, well‑paced service from start to finish.”

“It's been a while since we were this much satisfied from dining out. We walked in on a Thursday evening and we're seated within 5 minutes. We were hungry but couldn't decide on what to order so we went with the firehouse executive, and each dish was coursed out nicely and absolutely delicious. Starting with the warm bread and the butter! I don't know if they add caramelized onion or else but the butter was so flavorful. Lobster bisque was perfectly savory with rich broth and matched well with the puffy pastry covering the top. I don't normally eat iceberg cabbage for nutritional reason but the menu came without substitutions. It was a great surprise and very well balanced in layering the flavor and texture. The steaks were cooked precisely. The garlic. Brussels sprouts with cherries(?). The spinach cream. The potato gratin. All perfectly cooked. I was sad I was getting full at this point. Then you get to choose 1 dessert from 5 choices and we chose key lime pie which was very nice and citrusy. All staff were very tentative, professional, and friendly. Will be back for sure!”

“The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant has a very unique and beautiful atmosphere. The historic building gives the place a special charm, and the overall vibe is elegant and welcoming. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the steak was cooked perfectly — very flavorful and tender. The drinks were okay, but the food definitely stood out. Overall, it’s a great spot for a nice dinner with a cool ambiance and quality dishes. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Chicago.”

“Tried this restaurant for the first time for a Valentine's dinner. Service from the valet to the server were all amazing! The food was wonderful, just wasn't a fan off the broccolini which seemed fully burnt. The menu mentioned discounted wines on Wednesdays but that was not auto applied by the server. Pricing was fair and the dining area was not too tight and offered various seating types.”

“I tend to be more critical of restaurants that position themselves among the best, because naturally I expect an exceptional experience. We had wanted to visit for a long time, and when we saw it featured on the Restaurant Week menu, we finally decided to try it. Overall, the experience was somewhat underwhelming, despite excellent service. We started with the lobster bisque, which absolutely lived up to its reputation. The puff pastry baked on top was delicious, and the bisque itself was fresh, rich, and full of flavor — easily the highlight of the meal. However, the experience declined with the main course. I ordered the fillet mignon, which was served without any sides. For a $60 Restaurant Week dinner menu, this felt disappointing, as you must order sides separately. We added fries and Brussels sprouts, both of which were very good, but the steak itself lacked flavor and was simply average rather than memorable. For dessert, we tried both the butter cake and the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was particularly disappointing — it tasted almost sugar-free and lacked depth and richness. The butter cake was better, but overwhelmingly sweet to the point of being unbalanced. While the service was truly top-notch and the atmosphere was pleasant, the food did not consistently match the restaurant’s reputation or my expectations. A few standout elements, but overall not the exceptional dining experience I had hoped for.”
