The Chestnut Inn

“Upon reading some reviews for the Chestnut I hesitated to make a booking. I’m so glad we decided to go ahead and reserve a room. Current Innkeeper Danielle is a rock star host. She’d just returned from a lengthy drive during a personal leave. She was immediately intentional and connective. Her attention to detail and willingness to take care of our personal requests were impossible to ignore. It felt as though we were with a long time friend. Kudos to the management for a fantastic hire for this management role. The Inn is lovely in ways that only old spaces can be. However, maintaining good conditions with aging grounds isn’t easy. Innkeeper Danielle is meeting that challenge with personal style and seeming ease. It goes thus without saying that we enjoyed our stay and would love to return. This is unlikely since we live in Taiwan but we dream of bringing the feel that Innkeeper Danielle is offering here to our own place of rest someday over there. Thank you Innkeeper Danielle and Chestnut Inn for a great stay.”

“Does a small country Inn with a sophisticated look. They have a wonderful restaurant with a somewhat limited menu but terrific Friday night specials. They are a beautiful lakefront location with lots of porch and outside areas.”

“I recently had the opportunity to take my family to the Chestnut Inn for Thanksgiving dinner. The environment is first class - tasteful, comfortable, historic, charming, etc. It was my first visit, but certainly not my last. Lakeside dining adds to the experience. The food was good. I thought the drinks a bit pricey - (Not a drinker myself, so I am not certain what one would normally pay, but $15 for a glass of wine and $19 for a cocktail seemed pricey for the area). Overall the food was well prepared and delicious. It was a buffet which allowed for generous self served portions. The only really criticism - one might expect when paying a premium price for a meal and an elegant facility that the appearance of the staff would be more professional. I may be showing a particular bias, but McDonalds does not allow employees to have visible tattoos - maybe they owners of the inn should consider a similar policy - several staff members were covered with tattoos that were highly visible. It just takes away from the elegance of the event to see such a display.”

“The hotel is lovely and picturesque. Unfortunately, that is where the accolades end. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was mediocre at best, with a menu that was uninspired and overtly greasy. That said, the worst part of our stay was that there was NO air flow in our bedroom. The large AC unit in the living area did not translate to the bedroom and we were unable to sleep due to the excessive heat and stuffiness. After being up for hours, we decided to text Charity, as her name was provided if we needed anything overnight. We requested a fan and not only did she not respond that evening, but we never received a text response at all. My husband ended up on the couch, but it was the worst night's sleep either one of us had in ages. When I reached out to the hotel the next day, I was told the manager, Adam, would be in touch by Tuesday. When I didn't hear by Thursday, I sent him an email with details of our experience. When I didn't receive a response to my email, I called him again the following week (both times I spoke with Rochelle, who was lovely and sympathetic). Almost 3 weeks later, I have received no response (although I recently received a $100 Amex credit - I paid $440 for the room for reference) and I am shocked that a hotel this revered has zero customer service. As a loyal customer to the Settler Hospitality brand, having stayed at Settlers Inn and Hotel Anthracite in the past several times, this experience was far below my expectations. The lack of concern for their hotel guests is truly shocking. Needless to say, I recommend seeking alternate accommodations in the Deposit area.”
