The Webster is a Contemporary American restaurant in the Northside neighborhood of Iowa City.
“This restaurant is Chicago-level amazing. For being located in the middle of Iowa, you would never expect it, but I wish I could copy-paste this back into Chicago so I could take my friends. The menu is constantly changing and rotating to capture the most in season ingredients and dishes. It is truly delightful. We celebrated the beginning of Paige’s college graduation weekend here with the most incredible meal. I have 0 complaints and we ordered so well. The weather was absolutely perfect and we got to sit outside and catch up before the chaotic & exciting weekend before us. To start, we got the biscuits. First thought is “oh that’s boring” but NO. These biscuits are literally the best, most salty, most flaky, most buttery biscuits you’ve ever had in your life. I’m drooling thinking about them. Then we got the pea & asparagus salad, which had the perfect amount of green goddess dressing and was so crunchy and fresh. Yum! For our mains, we ordered the orecchiette pasta, which is my favorite pasta to order at restaurants with the spicy sausage and broccoli, and this one didn’t disappoint. I was loving every bite. For the second main, we got the wagyu beef steak which was cooked to perfection and had the most delicious sauce with mushrooms and potatoes. Seriously so amazing. And for dessert, this was the best surprise, the lemon yuzu curd. Wow. I am a chocolate purist and will rarely venture out of my comfort zone. Per recommendation from Paige’s friend, we ordered this dish and WOW WOW WOW. It was so light, refreshing, and delightful. 10/10 would order again. For a reservation for graduation weekend, we called the restaurant on January 6th. Order: buttermilk biscuits, cultured butter, rhubarb jam asparagus & pea salad, little gem, benton’s ham, green goddess orecchiette, spicy berkshire pork sausage, broccoli rabe, pecorino dry-aged wagyu cote de boeuf *, ramp, morel, garlic chive butter Lemon yuzu curd”
“We hosted our spa holiday party at The Webster last night and had such a great experience. We had a private room in the mezzanine area, which was perfect for our group. The service was excellent and the food and drinks were amazing. The menu was definitely a bit more elevated than what some of us are used to, but everyone really enjoyed it and it was fun to step outside our comfort zone food wise. The staff was also very flexible and accommodating with the activities we wanted to do afterward. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely host a party there again.”
“The best restaurant experience I've had in a long while. The best vibe, well ci.posed dishes, fresh seasonal ingredients. Flavor bombs of love 8n every bite. The wines are paired perfectly. Service is attentive and proactive. The room has perfect lighting and the vibe is City like but without the yelling across the table to have a convo. I truly enjoyed myself, and the experience here. Going back next week. Id rather come here than anywhere in Chicago. Iowa city.... never would have thought a place like this could exist here.”
“In town for a Gopher Hawkeye game. We ended up picking Webster from the best restaurants list. It was a solid pick!! Why? Food was fantastic michelin star quality. Oysters with an apple mignonette, chicken so tender and flavorful, and a short rib style pasta. Biscuits and fried rice were awesome. Sommelier picked a perfect wine for us. Our server Riley was wonderful. Great suggestions and timely service. Overall…so happy we picked The Webster!,”
“There is a nice and cozy vibe to this restaurant. The menu had items I’d never seen before. If you’re an adventurous eater and want to try something new, this would be a good place for it. The restaurant and bar is fairly small, allowing for a more intimate experience. I will say for the price, I kind of expected more. This place is not cheap and it didn’t blow me away. I didn’t think our waiter was all that knowledgeable either. Otherwise, we had a nice time.”
