Makizushico

“Tl;dr - good food, very friendly staff, decent prices, very slow service, make a reservation or they won't seat you. Giving this place 5 stars but with some caveats. The service is slow, so keep that in mind. It's not for a lack of staff, but I believe it is slow to add to the "atmosphere". They also don't seem to seat you unless you have a reservation. They have spots for maybe 30 people inside, including about 8 or 10 at the counter. We arrived at 5pm on a Friday and despite the place being half empty, they would not seat us. We ended up asking to sit on their patio, which had additional space, and they said OK. During the 90 minutes or so we were there, maybe 12 people went inside to eat and another 10 came out to the patio after going inside. The dining room still had open spots when we left. We ended up ordering 3 rolls, some edamame, the pork buns, and the wagyu fried rice. It took about 45 minutes or so for all of this to come out, one dish at a time. Other tables around us outside were also getting 1 or 2 dishes at a time. Our waitress was fantastic. Very friendly, very accommodating. She also gifted us a couple of the dessert dishes, which helped the experience. The food is quite good, and only slightly overpriced on the fancier items. Much more reasonable though than similar restaurants around town, so that is a positive. The quality of the ingredients also seemed quite good comparatively, another positive. Our bill was $70 after tax and before tip, no drinks. We would go here again but with different expectations. Knowing that they most likely won't seat us inside without a reservation and that the rollout will be slow, we could plan for it. This is a great place for a date night, though our young kids enjoyed it as well. Advice for the owners - make the patio nicer and more inviting. It's a good space and just needs some love and attention to detail.”

“I’ve had a lot of phenomenal sushi dinners, but Makizushico easily took the top spot. The vibe was great, and the omakase was unreal. Lost track of how many courses there were but every one of them was top notch in innovation and at the same time not losing integrity from the freshness of the ingredients. All in all, the best sushi I’ve had and a new go to spot for any special occasion.”

“Had a great experience at Makizushico today doing the mid tier omakase. Sky sat us down and was such a kind hostess and server throughout our experience. They have 3 tiers; low -80 pp, mid - 100 pp and high - 120 pp. we took the mid tier and had so much food I could’ve exploded! Fendi was our chef and he took VERY good care of us, he even knew our likes and dislikes and took that into account when building our menu. It was fun to write this review, but I’m going to take a food coma nap now!”

“I would give the chef behind the sushi bar 10 stars if I can! It's absolutely the highlight of our trip in Denver. We ordered omakase, and the fish are so fresh. The chef told us most of the fish are from Japan by air, so it's amazingly fresh and delicious. Salmon belly was from Scotland, omg the taste was rich. We absolutely enjoyed the meal, and everyone was extremely friendly. We will for sure be back. Do not pass on this best Japanese restaurant in Denver area!”

“The sashimi deluxe is good quality and quantity for the price. Unagi and scallop nigiri were both tasty. It's a trendy spot where all the sashimi and nigiri had extra non-traditional toppings (lemon zest, jalapeno, chili crisp, seaweed, etc). Service and atmosphere were lacking, so I'd recommend it for a semi-casual meal but not a big occasion or date night. The music was loud (one song was bass-heavy to the point that the table was shaking), the restaurant phone rang at some point and it was broadcast across the entire dining area, and service was very slow.”
