Chama Mama Brooklyn Heights

“Continuing our search for quality outdoor dining, we bring you Chama Mama, a lovely Georgian (Eastern European, not southern) restaurant in Brooklyn Heights. We love their wines (the wine flights are a great way to familiarize yourself with what they have to offer), but let's not ignore their cocktails! In their summer menu, we enjoyed their Lychee Margarita - slightly tart, flavorful and a large fresh lychee to give you a sweet burst at the end. The house Old Fashioned is well-balanced and an excellent sipping drink. We ordered the Kubdari puff pastry - delicate pastry chock full of delicious spiced beef and pork, served crispy smashed potatoes (or you can choose salad) - and kvari (cheese dumplings, served with homemade mint yogurt). We ended with their Honey Cake ice cream - a creamy ice cream filled with bits of their famous Honey Cake - amazing! We can also recommend highly their dumplings (your choice of fillings, panfried or steamed), any of their freshly baked breads and their lamb-stuffed grape leaves. They have a very good selection of veggie options so no one gets left out! Our server Gustavo was very helpful and got us taken care of quickly but we weren't rushed at all. We've enjoyed our visits there, and are glad their outdoor tables are now open for the season!”

“The food and drinks are delicious! The atmosphere is amazing as well. Different seating options, which is great. The customer service is excellent, from the hostess to the waiters. Understandably packed, so be sure to make a reservation. Definitely dining here again soon.”

“Tasty Georgian fare in Brooklyn Heights: not our first visit to Chama Mama, and definitely not our last. The tasty dishes consumed were: Georgian Salad, Mushroom Khinkali, (perfect Khinkali, just wish there were more of 'em) seasonal Khachapuri, Assorted Pkhali & Lobio, washed down with Tarkhun. As good as what you'd get in Tbilisi.”

“Hip and happening, CM throws some pretty novel preparations at worthy diners in a well established space - and if you aren’t sure what you’re doing, the staff are happy to guide you toward a pretty tasty evening. Overall some dishes felt dry, oddly flavored, and prices are a bit high to not deliver on quantity or exceptionally creative dishes. What you’re paying for is novelty, which may be enough for some. In one instance: A raft of cheese and egg is mixed at the table for one of the small plates and this seems to be a crowd favorite, we certainly enjoyed it. If you’re a fan of Mediterranean food then much of what’s on offer here will likely appeal to you. Shelling out over $100 a person to get a mix of things felt steep and we left feeling we could have easily eaten more. The wine options were pretty solid though. Desserts were both good if a bit lacking in texture. Some outdoor seating is available but no heat lamps appear to be available so expect that only in warmer months.”

“Love Chama Mama! This was my first time at the Brooklyn location and the food is just as excellent with far less of a crowd! The ambience remains cozy and the front of the restaurant has huge windows - great lighting! We had the beef kebab - perfectly cooked and seasoned and the satsebeli sauce is the perfect accompaniment! We also had the machkatebi (cheese pancakes), adjaruli khachapuri, and boiled lamb khinkali (also perfectly cooked). On the side, we had the crispy smashed potatoes with tkemalili - the combination of perfectly crisped potatoes with the tartness of the tkemalili was a great pairing for the kebab! I also tried the the Georgia 1918 and fresh start mocktails - the first smooth and raspberry-ful and the second like a light mint lemonade. Honestly, there's so much on the menu that I feel like I try something new every time I'm here. This spot is also in a wonderful location right by cute shops and the Brooklyn Heights promenade - great for a stroll after stuffing oneself with cheese-based decadence.”
