Welcome to OKDONGSIK. The renowned Korean chef Ok, Dongsik has brought his self-titled, 7 time Michelin Bib Gourmand listed Seoul-based restaurant to NYC in collaboration with HAND Hospitality. We are a single entree restaurant serving Dweji-Gomtang and Kimchi Mandu for side dish.
“The owner of this restaurant appeared in Korea netflix Culinary class wars. They primary sell one main dish and that is Gomtang. Broth soup with meat and rice. Its true when they say looks can be deceiving. Especially so in this case. You'd be amazed at how something that looks so plain, can taste so clean yet flavourful. It is evident they dont use msg as well because you do not feel thirsty at all after the meal. It is a very small 10 seater restaurant so you can expect there to be quite a wait. Do note they might serve single diners first. Although you can ask to be seated seperately if you want it. Well done. Extremely impressive.”
“Absolutely worth the wait. Counter seating only, so expect a line and keep your group small. This is a solo or one friend spot. You’re not here to catch up with friends; you’re here to eat, and the food deserves your full attention. The pork broth is clear and so light, yet completely satisfying. The kimchi mandoo is perfection. I don’t know what else to say. Some things you just have to taste for yourself.”
“All of the staff were friendly and pleasant service was wonderful. The dumplings are stuffed and plump and spicy but really yummy. The soup was absolutely delicious the broth was so warming and revitalizing the pork was tender and clean with the green onions and rice 🤤. I dont usually like rice in my soup but I absolutely loved it from here. The lemonade was a nice way to finish it was sweet and bubbly I saw the previous menu had a yuzu drink and was hoping to try that but it was replaced with the lemonade and I'm not mad at all. They also give you hot barely tea when you are seated. 10 out of 10.”
“This was one of the best Korean restaurants I've been to. The broth is so clear yet rich. Not oily or heavy at all. The pork is so tender and pairs well with their housemade gochuji paste. The mandu was very soft and tender and filled with meat. The dumpling skin is very thin. Pairs very well with the dwaeji gomtang. The naeng jaeyuk was so tender as well and goes well with the gochuji. Their kimchi was actually really good. Had to ask for refills. More on the less ripe side yet flavorful, cruncy and fresh. Overall very hearty and healthy meal. The 45 min wait was very worth it (we went on a Monday during lunch time).”
“A great spot for a clean and comforting bowl of gukbap. The broth was light yet flavorful, and the rice stayed nice in the soup until the end. I visited right before break time and got seated faster than expected, even on a busy weekend. ⭐️One small note: the seating felt a bit tight, especially as a left-handed person, so... lefties may notice it too. +You can order online.”
