Omen opened its first restaurant in the ancient city of Kyoto. In 1981, Omen opened its doors in Soho. Our dream is to share the culinary culture of Japan with you while contributing to a more health-conscious society. To that end, we care about every part of the process involved in the cultivation of our "heritage ingredients". We are proud that through our efforts to provide traditional, healthy Japanese cuisine, Azen received a Slow Food Award in Italy and numerous awards in Japan.
“Went here for friend's bday 🎂! The food was super duper good especially the cow meat 🤤. The Japanese chef was super nice and I loved the ambiance. Very cute tea cups. The paintings on the wall were hard to read but that is probably the appeal. One of my friends only eats McDonald's and Chipotle but even they enjoyed it. I dont even like fish but it was good! These fish mustve been grass fed and farm raised. The cod was probably black ops due to the color. We said some silly things but did not get kicked out (nepotism) so they are rather accepting. Very edible food, we ate the leaves even. The only way you'd get kicked out is probably throwing food on the wall but don't do that! One last word: Omen.”
“Service was EXCEPTIONAL! Very detailed and courteous staff. One individual noticed I had a small bag and asked to store it away so I could enjoy my dinner. The concierge helped us slip into our checked winter jackets before we left. Btw the food was on point 🤤. We will return. One small drawback is it’s CASH or AMEX only.”
“Very relaxed meal, intense and distinct flavors, in a relatively vibrant Japanese restaurant. The staff was very friendly and seemed to really respect the food. They made me feel very welcome. My favorite dishes in the tasting menu were the beef soup and noodles, as well as the misa soup in the appetizer. They were however rather salty and I woke up thirsty. I would love to be back.”
“Summary: - Food was great - Service was attentive - Felt very rushed throughout the entire dinner which kind of spoiled the experience, especially considering that we spent over $400 including a 20% tip - The above could have been better addressed if we were informed ahead of time about any time restraints. But this was not noted during the reservation, when being seated, or during the meal Full review: Made a last minute reservation for dinner for 2 on a Tuesday. We were seated promptly and we both ordered the kaiseki plus two alcoholic drinks. The kaiseki is a multi-course meal, but with each course I felt a bit rushed when the next course came out and I wasn’t finished with the previous course. We also received the bill while we were still finishing dessert which made us feel further rushed. Additionally, I was told we had 10 minutes to free up the table even though I was just waiting for my partner to return from the restroom before leaving. We were there for 2 hours which seems long, but I’ve been to other kaiseki which were 2.5 hours, weren’t rushed, and they inform you during the reservation about time limits. I’ve been eating in NYC for 9 years at various price points and I don’t think I’ve ever felt rushed like this before, which is even more egregious considering how much money we spent and tipped despite everything. I really want to return to try the rest of the menu which was à la carte and seemed to have a lot of options, especially because the food was fresh and delicious. But I’m not sure I want to spend money to be rushed again when I’m paying not just for the food, but for an opportunity to unwind and relax.”
“the food was fine but the service was actually close to the worst thing i’ve had. i think it was just our waitress tbh, everyone else seemed like they were hustling. we had to ask so many times to even get water refills, the food took foreverrrr, and getting the check even took ages and a lot of attempts to get her attention. apparently it’s cash only which we did not know about. idk if the waiter even knew that bc she literally picked up our check with the card only to come back to tell us no card (other than amex)??? great vibes though”
