Tipo is an Italian restaurant in the Portland neighborhood of Portland.
“Tipo had been on my list to try for a while and we finally made it happen! I had a feeling from looking at the menu several times online it was going to be a great place. The vibe is casual but the food is elevated and so good. We had a great leek dish, the campanelle pasta, a pizza and tiramisu. Solid cocktails. Our server Kelly was excellent. We will be back on a regular basis!”
“Great place for group dinner. Loved their pasta and pizza. Negroni primavera was the most selected drink in the group.”
“Delicious food and great service! We got the meatballs and the mozzarella arancini to start, both came out pretty quick and were yummy! Our server was very attentive to our needs. We got the new yorker pizza and Rye Cavatelli, both were the perfect size to not have any leftovers. Ive come here a handful of times and it always is a great time.”
“I placed a to-go order of spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread as appetizer. When the order was ready, I noticed how lightweight the bag was. I opened the small box containing the spaghetti and meatballs and I couldn't believe my eyes that I was paying $26 for this amount of food. I mentioned it to the host, who tried to explain the quality vs quantity ratio, and that they are not a "traditional" Italian restaurant – which I knew since I'm playing $26 for pasta. He offered to reimburse the bill, which was nice, but I said no thanks and took my order. The food was a bit underwhelming and spicy, which I don't understand why. I wanted to share it with my 2-year old and I couldn't because of that.”
“Tonight we dined at Tipo after hearing so many great reviews, and we made our reservation two weeks in advance. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM, and it took about 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us to take a drink order. By that point, we had already reviewed the menu and were ready to place our full order, but our server would only take drinks. Another 15 minutes passed before we received them and were finally able to place our food order. We ordered three pizzas and a pasta, and our server mentioned he was going to wait a few minutes before sending the order to the kitchen because they were backed up. An hour later, our food still hadn’t arrived, and our server told us he was “just putting the order in now,” before quickly backtracking after seeing our reaction and saying it had actually already been sent. Another hour passed before we finally received only two pizzas and the pasta — one pizza was missing entirely. When we pointed this out, our server immediately said, “Oh yes, it’ll be right out.” Less than a minute later, he returned and tried telling us we had only ordered two pizzas and a pasta. There was no ownership of the mistake and no apology. By this point, we were starving, freezing, and the only table left on the patio, so we just made the best of the situation with what we had. Throughout the entire evening, there was very little acknowledgment from our server. It honestly felt like he was avoiding us rather than addressing the long delays. A little communication, accountability, and a sincere apology would have gone a long way tonight.Tonight we dined at Tipo after hearing so many great reviews, and we made our reservation two weeks in advance.
