Feral is a Vegan restaurant in the Vernon neighborhood of Portland.
“Hands down our favorite restaurant in PDX (or maybe anywhere). Everything is vegan, and everything is delicious! We’ve been here dozens of times over the years, and it never disappoints. We love that there’s always something new and it changes with the seasons. Have there been the occasional dishes that push us outside our comfort zone? Yes, but very infrequently and far out numbered by the dishes that have practically brought me to tears by how viscerally tasty they were. I’m still dreaming of the “Peaches & Cream” dish from last summer, or the Cucumber Panzanella last weekend. If you ever get a chance to enjoy one of their special brunch offerings, GO! Stoked at the mocktail menù having returned (and yes, also still dreaming of the “Grandma’s Oatmeal Cookie” libation from times gone by). Quick note on portions: it’s definitely got an “order a few things and share” vibes going on. That said, my partner and I (both endurance athletes with healthy appetites) usually order 3 or 4 plates and ALWAYS walk away feeling very satiated… and with perhaps some leftovers. If you want dessert (and you will), plan accordingly. Beyond the fabulous food, the people are friendly and helpful. Perfect balance of service and space, without too much stuffiness while keeping it classy. The atmosphere feels intimate yet approachable. Perfect lil date night! TL;DR - eat at Feral. You’re guaranteed to try something unique and delicious.”
“Absolutely divine experience both times I’ve been. My first experience I was celebrating being halfway through chemotherapy and they made it so special! We also still think about the salad we got (photo in this review). Just went about two weeks ago to celebrate finishing my masters and it was again so amazing. The wine was lovely as was the food. Very quickly seated and felt taken care of the whole time. Wish we could go more often but we live a few hours away.”
“We went to Feral for our anniversary dinner, and it was fantastic! The menu changes often to keep up with the freshest local ingredients available. I have been to other places with seasonal veggies, but this tasted fresher than any. I was overjoyed at the delicate nuances in the sauces. You could pick out individual ingredients and smell/taste the life in them. The agnolotti dumpling-esque pasta filled with housemade "sausage" was the highlight, but the masa-fried asparagus, and post-fire foraged morels were all things I will think about for weeks to come. My partner and I decided we need to eat there more often, especially because of the fleetingness of the hyper-seasonal menu. It is almost a shame that I may never have those exact dishes again, but that is what makes this place so special and their chefs so great. Plus, the vibes are immaculate with metallic wallpaper and fresh-cut flowers at each table. You will feel as though you are inside a moody Victorian still life. Post-dinner, you may find yourself painted as a plump topless model on your sofa, fat and happy. Shout out to the great service from Isaac, as well - super knowledgeable about everything on the menu and had top-knotch recs for us! This is a great experience for vegans and meat eaters alike!”
“We had a great time at Feral! The Sunchokes, Black Garlic, Citrus dish was amazing!! The black garlic purée, preserved lemon, mandarin and chocolate blew my mind and that saffron & nettle risotto with shaved hazelnut parmesan, snap peas, and mint was so flavorful and fresh. The Soubies (raviolis) with wheat berry sausage, charred kale, and fennel pollen were really tasty too. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the flavors. Sara, our waitress, was awesome. super friendly and helpful, which made the night even better. Just a heads up: we had a 7:30 pm Thursday reservation and some dishes were already sold out, so I’d recommend going earlier if you can. The vibe of the place is nice and cozy, and the food was really good. Can’t wait to come back and try more of their menu!”
“WOW! A reasonably priced fine dining experience (all vegan!🌱)! The portions were generous! Had the PB+J cabbage- sounds weird but is so tasty! The risotto was warm and savory and the cured carrots in it were so so good! Got both pasta dishes - the parsnip carbonara and the wheat berry sausage agnolotti- both were divine! The lighting was warm and dim. The decor is dark and moody and beautiful.”
