Moshi Moshi is a San Francisco Legacy Japanese restaurant run by longtime SF restauranteur, Mitsuru Akashi. Mitsuru dreamed of offering Nihon-centric cuisine with finely crafted cocktails and an emphasis on Japanese whisky. The owner, Mitsuru, often expounds about the wafu of Moshi Moshi and what it means to offer his heart to the patrons. Wafu is not just Japanese style but the way that Moshi reflects the amalgamation of the employees’ personalities and the essence of simple Japanese style back at the patrons. He is not concerned with authentic Japanese cuisine but focused on how the employees and their heritage and passions influence the Japanese style and cuisine at Moshi Moshi. Mitsuru says this way of thinking is Moshi-wafu.
“Food: best japanese food i had in SF! it was amazing! Service: everyone really kind, especially a guy called Cam! Atmosphere: cute ambience and playing the songs of Sade! couldn’t be better! Now i have a new fave restaurant in SF!”
“I've been into Moshi Moshi a few times now and I've always enjoyed my meals. There is excellent variety, fun cocktails, and the staff is always so friendly and accommodating. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly !”
“The whiskey flights, the high quality of fish served here, the chill heated patio. Nothing about this spot id want to change. Add in the fact that the prices are super reasonable…. It’s probably my favorite ‘low key’ sushi spot in the 7x7. Highly recommend the Uni. Cheers!”
“Solid spot for good quality sushi at a reasonable price :) Hamachi toro nigiri and kibinago nigiri in particular were delicious.”
“Solid neighborhood Japanese, with a little something for everybody — a wide selection of hot and cold appetizers, nigiri, rolls, noodle soups and classic entrees. Though maybe not a culinary destination, a fashionable local option frequented by Dogpatch regulars. Outdoor patio seating. Dog-friendly, inside and out. Soft Shell Crab Katsu, crunchy breadcrumb deep fry served with Japanese tartar sauce — satisfying comfort. Squash Blossom Tempura — a novel seasonal specialty, the batter, more beer batter. Shrimp Dumplings — top choice. Hamachi Kama, chargrilled yellowtail collar — excellent. Chicken Udon — solid delivery. Sun Dragon Roll, though good, the shrimp tempura batter was not as lightly crisp as hoped, the rice slightly densely packed. Inari with Wasabi special — clever and sweet. Selection of nigiri sushi, does the trick, but not life-changing. Great as a small dish izakaya, with Japanese whiskey flights a novelty.”
