“Second time at St. James and once again they don’t disappoint. The food, service and vibes are 10/10. This visit our server Tom was fantastic. We chose the bar service and had a great time chatting with him. He offered great suggestions and we loved them all. The portion size was a wonderful surprise and even though the restaurant boast a modern twist they’re still able to authentically keep the flavors of the dishes. Very well thought out. The callaloo soup …wow is all I can say. Absolutely fantastic! We need this restaurant in Miami!! Can’t wait to come back and try on next visit.”

“Legitimately this was probably the best meal of my life. There were no menu items that were “meh.” The portion sizes for the entrees were huge, and going back I could probably just order a thousand of the crab acora. Even the greens were the best I’ve ever had and I could not do justice to them because I was so full of everything else. The ox tails were incredible. The braised ribs were a joy. The duck and dahl was good, and the crab and dumplings were a delight, and not as heavy as I expected. The coconut rice had a very pleasant complexity and lightness. The sorrel margarita was a perfect sharpness to cut through the richness of most of the food. I love a simple fried plantain and even these were the best ones I’ve eaten. I went in a group of six which made it easy to sample around the table and no one picked badly. We listened to Tymothy’s advice (he was absolutely wonderful!) and he did not steer us wrong. Absolutely go with friends, share plates, you will not be disappointed. We ended the night with a rum cake that was topped with ice cream for a wonderful combination of temperatures and texture, and some mango sorbet that was a perfect counterpoint. I wasn’t sure if I could eat any of the dessert I was so full, but we could easily have split a second rum cake. The vibe was relaxed and welcoming and loud, and we’d reserved a table that put us up on the balcony for a nice view of the restaurant. No fine dining stuffiness, just incredible food in a good atmosphere. I’m only sad I don’t live close enough to go here more often.”

“Yoooo, I went looking for a good Jamaican restaurant and ended up finding way more than I expected 😄. The food was amazing. I ordered the spicy pepper shrimp, sweet plantains, and rum cake à la mode, while my friend went with the fried snapper. The pepper shrimp came with a generous portion of shrimp 🍤, paired with black mushroom rice and a rich, thick sauce on the side that tied everything together perfectly. The fried snapper was seasoned really well and served over a bed of rice and vegetables. It came with a mango sauce that added an incredible layer of flavor to the dish. Overall, it was an amazing experience. Great customer service, a welcoming atmosphere, and the wait time was short, the food came out in a timely manner. Definitely a spot worth going back to.”

“First time visiting this restaurant. Everyone's food was delicious. I ordered the Cornish Hen and Macaroni pie. Perfect choice. Great ambience. Recommend making reservations. Street parking a little nerve racking to find. 20% fair wage fee is added to all checks to pay base hourly wages and offer benefits to the staff. This fee is not a tip.”

“Finally had the chance to check out St James and it did not disappoint! From being seated in a timely fashion to great wait service from Tim, this Valentine’s date night out with my wife will be one to remember. The food was good and fresh, really loved the flavor profiles and the vibes inside the restaurant was dope! We started with the Aloo and Channa Pies and the cassava fritters, but bites very tasty and the accompanying sauces were great choices. For our main course we shared the Paratha Roti Platter and side sampler, this was great as we were able to taste a little of the Caribbean cuisine and cooking skills of the chef and team. Everything was tender and had the perfect balance of heat and savory. Also Great music playing the background throughout the evening at a volume that we were able to talk without yelling which is sometimes hard to find at DC area restaurants. We look forward to going back because there were so many choices on the menu that sounded really good.”
