“Absolutely love dining at Donabe Hannah ❤️🔥 The sushi and the wagyu are incredible, and every single dish is so thoughtfully done — especially the hot pots and everything from the grill. Everything tastes fresh, high quality, and consistently amazing every time we go. But beyond the food, the service is always so warm and attentive and makes the whole experience feel special. And can we also talk about the MUSIC 🤣🎶 Somehow they always have the best playlist playing – the vibe is just unmatched. One of our favourite Sushi spots in London for sure.”
“***** for this neighbourhood gem! We visited Donabe Hannah yesterday and were blown away by the authenticity of the experience. Although it only opened in April 2025, it has quickly become a beloved part of the community. Seeing a dining room filled with happy locals is such a wonderful sign that this place is the real deal, and you can tell that Chef Proprietor Daisuke Shimoyama is truly creating something special here. The Highlights * The Food: While the sushi was excellent and incredibly fresh, the true stars are the clay-pot rice dishes (Donabe). We tried the Sea Bass and the Crab-Salmon Rose rice; both were creative, comforting, and packed with flavour. * The Service: The staff, especially Rion, were exceptionally friendly and kept us smiling throughout the meal. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. * The Vibe: It’s a pleasant, smaller venue that feels like a hidden slice of Japan in London. Room for Improvement: * The only minor critique is the wine selection, which felt a bit limited compared with the high quality of the food. (A quick tip for the team: check out Majestic Wines nearby for a more diverse range of pairings!) Bottom Line: Even with the wine, this is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be a regular here. Highly recommended!”
“Loved the cozy and quiet atmosphere here—perfect for a peaceful dinner date. The Crab & Salmon Roes Rice was delicious, but the absolute highlight for me was the Fried Potato Pave (a must-try!). The Yakushima Black Tea Ice cream was also a lovely, subtle ending to the meal. Definitely coming back.”
“Quietly one of the best Japanese meals I’ve had in London. 🍵🥢 The whole experience felt genuinely Japanese — from the calm service to the kitchen team and the understated atmosphere. No overhyped “Tokyo aesthetic”, just really solid cooking and attention to detail. The A5 wagyu donabe was the highlight: rich, comforting and perfectly balanced with the rice and egg. The matcha was also excellent — proper tea flavour, not overly sweet. Tempura udon was surprisingly good too, with a very clean broth and light batter. Around £100pp and honestly felt worth it. A spot I’d happily travel across London for again.”
“Had such a lovely dinner here tonight. The restaurant has a very calm and authentic Japanese atmosphere — warm lighting, wooden interiors, and an open kitchen that genuinely felt like a small hidden spot in Tokyo. The highlight for us was definitely the donabe rice. We tried both the crab & ikura donabe and the chicken & mushroom donabe, and both were excellent. Watching the staff pour the sauce over the rice tableside made the whole experience feel really special. The rice itself was perfectly cooked with a subtle smoky/crispy texture from the claypot. We also ordered the eel tempura, prawn roll, tofu salad and potato pave — everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully seasoned. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The pacing of the meal was great as well. For London, it’s honestly quite rare to find a Japanese restaurant that feels this authentic and carefully executed. Definitely somewhere I’d come back to again. Highly recommend if you enjoy traditional Japanese comfort food and a more intimate dining atmosphere.”
