“Absolutely stunning experience at Kokin! The atmosphere is perfect for a date night, with a beautiful modern Japanese feel and an open kitchen. We tried the Japanese Assorted Starter Platter and every single item was delicious, especially the tofu cream with langoustine tartare – so smooth and fresh! The highlight was the Woodfire Grilled Miso-Marinated Black Cod, it was incredibly tender and flaky. Don't miss the Wagyu Ramen, the beef just melts in your mouth. Highly recommend”
“💐 Japanese Assorted Starter Platter A stunning selection of starters! The oysters were incredibly sweet and briny. I’d never had chawanmushi paired with grilled eel before—such a nice touch. The aubergine tempura had a lovely sweet aftertaste, and the creamy tofu was a fun, unique surprise. I’m usually not a fan of shiny-skinned fish, but even the mackerel here didn’t have that dry, coarse texture I usually dislike. 🐟 Sashimi Chef's Selection Honestly didn’t expect to get both chūtoro and ōtoro (medium & fatty tuna belly) at this price point! It’s clear why they’re famous for tuna—the freshness was absolutely top-tier. 🍣 Temaki Sushi Tried all the popular hand rolls, and the value is amazing—all under £10 each! My favourites were the sweet prawn and salmon avocado ones; you really taste how fresh the seafood is. My partner prefers fried fillings, so he loved the eel and fried oyster hand rolls. 🍣 Sushi made by me DIY hand roll set: around £28 for 7 rolls—unbeatable value! Comes with tuna, salmon roe, plus veg like cucumber and shiitake. You get to brush on your own sauce too; such a fun, interactive experience. We also tried a few main dishes: 🍛 Tuna Curry (lunch menu only) New lunch exclusive—only £8.50! Upgrade to add foie gras & onsen egg for just £15.50. Way better value than places like JC. Must-order. 🦢 Foie Gras & Unagi Okonomiyaki Huge portions of foie gras and eel piled on top! Rich, savoury sauce, and the combo of creamy foie gras, tender eel, and fluffy pancake is pure satisfaction.”
“Great Japanese spot, definitely worth a visit! Came here on a friend’s recommendation and had a really good experience. The food quality is excellent, you can tell the chef puts a lot of care into the cooking, especially with the preparation of the sushi and sashimi. The staff are very friendly and attentive, providing great service throughout our meal. The restaurant also has a nice, comfortable vibe to it. It’s a lovely place that deserves more support. Will definitely be back!”
“If you love Japanese food, you have to try this place! Everything was so delicious, especially the sashimi and sushi taro. You can even make your own sushi taro, which makes it even more fun. The unagi rice bowl, ramen, and foie gras were all incredibly good and honestly so impressive. The tuna sashimi was my favorite—so fresh and literally melted in my mouth. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy, perfect for enjoying good food with friends, and it’s also such a cute spot for photos!”
“Absolutely stunning food. All dishes so delicious. We have travelled around Japan, and this is the best Japanese food we’ve eaten in London. Better than Nobu. The staff were lovely - friendly and attentive. The price is high (for Stratford) but honestly the food is completely worth it. (Much better than Allegra, the previous restaurant here) Favourites - the miso back cod and tuna collar mains were outstanding. All the sashimi and sushi were super fresh and beautifully presented. Smoked sushi rice was inspired. The egg custard and eel starter was incredible. And you can’t beat a glass of Nyetimber sparkling. Thank you for a lovely evening. We’ll definitely be back.”
