“What an amazing experience at Bread Street Kitchen! The waiting staff were absolutely fantastic – friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The chefs did an incredible job; every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavour. I genuinely cannot praise the service and staff highly enough. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made the whole visit memorable. Highly recommended, and I will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone for such a wonderful experience!”
“The starters were all delicious, and the biggest surprise was definitely the cheese — rich, creamy, and slightly sweet, with an amazing balance of flavors. For the mains, the cod was the standout dish for me. It was cooked perfectly, tender and fresh, and the sauce paired with it was absolutely delicious. The steak was also cooked to the right level and very satisfying. A few of the other dishes were slightly on the salty side for my taste, but that may just be because I usually prefer lighter seasoning. The service was excellent as well — the staff were attentive, friendly, and very professional throughout the meal. Overall, a great dining experience and definitely worth visiting!”
“Visited with my partner back in november, on a friday afternoon, we did not have a reservation but they had room to seat us, which they did very quickly. Our server Kirsty, was very pleasant and patient with us. We ordered a large water for the table, an irn-bru and a lager for drinks. For food i had to get the fish and chips, and my partner opted for the slow cooked ribs, with a side of fries. We were informed it would be about a 30minute wait for the ribs, and we choose a bread basket while we waited. The bread was nice, warm and fluffy on the inside, and the butter was very soft and yummy. The fish and chips was the best i have had ever! Very crispy but light batter and the cod was so soft you could cut through it like butter. (As it should be since Ramsay is famed for it.) I am not a particularly big eater so for me the portion was perfect. My partner enjoyed his ribs although a bit spicy which he didn't expect, but he enjoyed it thoroughly. I think the fries portion should have been a bit larger for 7.50£. Overall food was great. Once we had run out of water Kirsty would still refill our glasses. We did order a 2nd lager, which took a few minutes to arrive, but i believe the bartender was busy with cocktails, so no problem as we had water. Then we ordered desserts, my partner had the tiramisu which he enjoyed, i just had a chocolate sorbet, which was a bit rich for me, but i expected it to be anyways. Then we ordered a double espresso for 5£ which we thought was a bit pricey. We got the bill which came to 139.09£ that included an optional 12.5% service charge, we had no problem with it. But there is also a 1£ donation which we weren't sure what it was 'SBH'?, which again no problem but a surp If you pay by card it will ask again if you would like to tip, which i think is a little bit ridiculous as you already have the 12.5% service. But my partner decided to leave and extra 10% anyway as it was a very good experience and we both come from hospitality. So our total for 2 was a whopping 146.04£ Definetly very pricey, but we expected that as it is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in the heart of edinburgh. Maybe would come back if we got rich lol. Overall a good experience, yummy food, and our server Kirsty was so lovely. Side note: I think the batrooms could do with a refresh, a bit outdated.”
“This is the casual version of GR’s massive array of restaurants. It offers the burgers, chips, some Asian dishes like curries, and something local to the area like Cullen Skink. The interior deco is a bit dark and basic with chairs and tables that’s seen better days. My chair was very wobbly and unstable. Table was wobbly and I held it down with my foot. There‘s a spiral metal staircase that leads to the upper floor… and the toilets. Thank goodness there’s a lift hidden behind curtains for those who aren’t agile enough to climb the spiral stairs. GR’s red wine was young and fruity with a medium body. A very pedestrian drink. Cullen Skink croquettes were on the dry side. It came with a lemon slice and two dabs of sauce on the plate. It needed a stronger sauce to complement the bland taste. Steamed Cod was nice but the plating was very messy. The fish sat on a base of potatoes and topped with a few tiny pieces of artichokes. The texture of slightly slimy artichokes with steamed cod was very odd. Strange beige food! The Venison pie was good. This was the dish that saved the dinner. Venison was minced very finely. The topping of mashed potatoes was creamy and nicely browned. Sauce had a slight tartness which balanced the richness of venison. Service was efficient and friendly. The eatery filled up (mainly with tourists) and became busy… not bad for a Monday night. The novelty of dining at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant must be a draw for his fans. The eatery is ok for those who like casual food.”
“My experience wasn't so great at all to be really honest. My friends arrived from Australia and we had taken them for a treat. They wanted to try the Beef Wellington experience. It started off okay starters were quite punctual. There was 3 different waiters serving our table with no communication between them. We had some table water which was very warm and not drinkable. 50 minutes had passed and the main courses arrived but no one had any cutlery to eat with so we had to flag down someone to get this. By this time the beef Wellington was warm but edible. I myself had asked what the fish and chips was and had been told haddock. When it arrived I had taken one bite and the haddock was smoked. The waiter had went into the kitchen and came back to tell me it was haddock. I repeated it was smoked and he took it away to the kitchen. The chef sent his apologies and said he had put another on but I did not want this as everyone was nearly finished their main course. I had one scoop of sorbet for dessert which was quite nice but again had to ask for cutlery and was given a table spoon. I had again to flag the attention of the waiters to ask where the desserts was from the experience and so whilst 3 of us had finished desserts 3 were still waiting. This is very poor, especially Gordon Ramsay putting his name to it. I was his shows being a chef myself and maybe he should pop by and sort out his Edinburgh restaurant”
