Gaucho Edinburgh

“The second Gaucho I've been to. I preferred the branch in Liverpool, but this is still a really great place, with wonderful service. I thought the beef tartare was too salty and over-flavoured. But the Tuna Tacos were a triumph. Also the spicy Chimichurri Margarita is recommended. Although before you waltz in there, be warned, it ain't cheap!”

“Food was wonderful, had the Focaccia and Chimichurri (definitely top tier, going to make at home) Seabream with a side of Mac & Cheese, and Dulce Des Leches Cheesecake. Service was a bit fast and the staff always seemed to be in a bit of a rush, but I suppose it was quite busy in there.”

“Continuing on my quest to dine in an Argentine restaurant in every major city that we travel to, while in Edinburgh we sought out their best Argentine steak house and after a heavy day of hiking we were ready and excited to hit Gaucho. We have seen this chain of Argentine steakhouses in other European cities and it was time to give it a try. As for true Argentine atmosphere, after the name it is left at the door, the decor was very nice but it could be any upscale restaurant in Great Britain, no Argentine touches, photographs or references to Gauchos, the background music is commercial electro-pop far from from a modern tango. Having said all that, this place is a fabulous steakhouse, the service was first rate and the food was amazing with their steaks probably among the best I have had in Europe. We started with a couple of empanadas, one with wagyu beef and the other with chorizo and chicken, both were baked and tasted fine but definitely not up to Buenos Aires snuff. We then moved moved on to the steaks and the dinner turned magical, the 500 gram sirloin was cooked perfectly rare, grilled and charred expertly, tender and flavorful, a 500 gram ribeye was just the same with extra marbling and with it extra flavor and mouth watering texture. The steaks were accompanied by crispy chips and mashed potatoes and they were perfect. No room for dessert but they didn’t even have flan on the menu. Great Argentine restaurant no, but an amazing Edinburgh steahouse yes.”

“Gaucho felt like a true taste of Argentina right in the heart of the city. The setting is stylish yet warm, with an atmosphere that instantly makes you relax and enjoy the experience. The service was fantastic too: friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food and drinks they’re serving. The ribeye steak was the highlight for me - incredibly tender, and full of that rich, smoky flavour. In true UK fashion, do order it one notch more rare than you want it 😉 The cocktails were beautifully made and very refreshing. And the dulce de leche cheesecake to finish was just incredible—creamy, indulgent, and packed with that classic caramel sweetness. It’s the kind of place that feels special without trying too hard—an authentic, memorable experience and an easy five stars.”

“We had such a wonderful experience at Gaucho Edinburgh – a real treat as part of a Red Letter Days gift, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The steak was honestly the best I’ve ever had. Although the steak portion was on the smaller side, every single bite was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The flavour was outstanding and it was prepared exactly as requested. The mac & cheese was a kids’ portion, which we all enjoyed having a taste of – creamy, comforting and full of flavour. The chips were excellent too, and despite the steak looking modest in size at first, we both left feeling pleasantly full and very satisfied. The atmosphere was relaxed yet special, making it feel like a real occasion. Service was attentive, and Gillian was fantastic — friendly, welcoming and made our evening even more enjoyable. A fantastic dining experience from start to finish – we’ll definitely be back!”
