When The Assembly Bar & Café was established in 1978, there were corn fields all around the restaurant. Many things have changed over the years except for The Assembly’s commitment to fresh quality food and excellent friendly service. Most of the same recipes have been used since its establishment. The Assembly is known for its award winning burgers which are made from fresh ground beef, the most popular one of which is the Bionic Burger. The same kitchen crew from 1978 still makes these hand packed 10 ounce burgers. It is estimated that over 2,500,000 burgers have been sold since opening. The Assembly has also maintained the quality BBQ Ribs which won 1st Place at Arlington Park Ribfest. The ribs are still purchased from the same purveyor that was used in 1978. The recipe for homemade BBQ Sauce has not changed. The Assembly has always been family owned. In 1995 the Taylor Family purchased it from the original owner and a commitment was made to maintain the heritage of The Assembly.
“Good burger, good fries. Great service, quick but not at all rushed. Price is a tad higher than I would have expected, but at this point where is it not. The interior can be a bit cramped.”
“We had a fun evening at the Assembly. My Old fashioned and my husband’s Manhattan was exceptional. My chicken wrap was hot, delicious and hearty. My husband enjoyed his burger with the fixings. Our server was friendly and swift with bring our second round of drinks and food A mean cocktail for only $10.00. And the price atmosphere and evening was amazing.”
“I've always have passed this place over the years and seen the assembly brag about having the best burgers in the area. Being a person who loves burgers, I finally got the opportunity to get a few people together to drive out and give this place a try. I had the swiss mushroom burger and asked for it to be rare medium rare and was told by our server not to worry about the burger being over done because they got it down to a science. Trusting her I got the burger medium rare and it came a perfect medium rare. Look at my photo. Yummo. Ill be back for sure.”
“Our meal was okay, nothing fancy. My wife ordered a ribeye since it was her birthday and I think she was let down. The chicken sandwich I had was not terrible but not mind-blowing either. I will say though, that Addison S, our server, is severely underpaid for what she provides for her guests. That young lady is seriously awesome & at minimum needs her pay tripled. We’d visit again only if we knew she would be working - what an amazing asset for this place!”
“My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Sunday evening around 8:30 pm before heading to the movies. There were a few other guests seated, and the vibe was relaxed and casual. The bartender was also the cook, which made for an interesting experience — it was actually fun watching her prepare the food right behind the bar. She was friendly, engaging, and attentive with everyone, which really stood out and set a welcoming tone. We ordered two El Paso burgers, one with fries and one with tater tots, along with a couple of beers. Portion sizes were generous, especially the burgers. That said, the meat itself lacked seasoning and flavor, which was a bit disappointing given how good they looked. The fries and tater tots were just okay — nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The atmosphere was cozy and nicely decorated for Christmas, which we appreciated. Overall, this is a solid, casual spot with good service and generous portions — a decent place to grab a quick meal and a drink.”
