The Restaurant at Zero George is an American restaurant in the Ansonborough neighborhood of Charleston.
“As visitors from Chicago, we’ve been fortunate enough to dine at some of the country’s most celebrated restaurants, including Alinea and Oriole. Needless to say, our expectations tend to travel with us. Zero George didn’t just meet them—it pulled up a chair, poured us a drink, and made itself right at home among the best dining experiences we’ve had. The evening started before we even stepped inside. Asia greeted us outside in the Charleston heat with a smile bright enough to make us forget the humidity existed. Jason, the maître d’, was polished, welcoming, and offered fascinating insight into both the kitchen and the team behind the magic. Then there was Kathy, the General Manager. If hospitality were an Olympic sport, she’d be standing on the podium. Charming, bubbly, authentic, and effortlessly engaging, she made us feel less like customers and more like old friends she was genuinely happy to see. Hearing how she made her way from New York to Charleston was almost as enjoyable as some of the courses. Almost. And speaking of courses… Wow. Every plate arrived looking like it belonged in an art gallery, only far more delicious. Each bite was thoughtfully composed, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The wine pairing was exceptional—one of those rare pairings where every glass seemed destined for the plate sitting in front of it. The appetizer round delivered immediate stars. The potted plant, shrimp cocktail, and cigars were standout performances worthy of an encore. Before moving on, do yourself a favor and order the caviar bump. Smooth, buttery, luxurious, and surprisingly delicate, it avoided the overly salty punch that some caviars deliver. Chased with a shot of Japanese vodka, it was the culinary equivalent of a mic drop. The hamachi was pristine. The tortellini and broth were elegant and intriguing, somehow comforting and sophisticated at the same time. The swordfish was so rich and flavorful that my wife immediately declared it tasted like Jamón Ibérico, which is not a comparison handed out lightly in our household. Then came the Wagyu, accompanied by onion paper and sauce. Rich, silky, and perfectly balanced, it was the kind of course that causes conversations to stop and appreciative nodding to begin. Just when we thought we couldn’t possibly eat another bite, dessert arrived and proved us wrong. The strawberry shortcake instantly transported me back to childhood summers chasing the ice cream truck down the block, desperately hoping there was still a Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake bar left in the freezer. Except this version was what that childhood memory wishes it could have been. 😂 And then there was the Tres Leches. We were told it has been a staple for more than a decade. After one bite, the reason became abundantly clear. This dessert deserves permanent menu protection status. If it ever disappears, there should be petitions. To Asia, Jason, Kathy, our outstanding server, and the entire team: thank you for creating such a memorable evening. And to the chefs—thank you for being creative, confident, and willing to take bold swings that land beautifully. We came hungry. We left impressed. The next time we’re in Charleston, we’ll be back.”
“Absolutely incredible dining experience! So happy we decided to celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here. Each course was not only delicious, but a true work of art. We cannot wait to return again soon!”
“This dinner was perfect, the seven courses that we were served showed creativity along with well balanced flavors and presentation. The staff was very attentive and always made sure that we had everything we needed. I was given a call from the restaurant before our reservation to ask if there were any food allergies, my Dad has a dairy allergy, so during the service, the kitchen staff was able to come up with a dairy free alternative of one of the entree courses and both dessert courses. Being in the cooking industry myself, I was very interested to see behind the scenes, I was offered the opportunity to see the kitchen. Chef Tyler, the Chef de Cuisine introduced himself and answered some of my questions about the kitchen and the restaurant. Overall 10/10 experience, will definitely be coming back.”
“Service impecable and food amazing. Enjoyed every single bite and the creativity behind the dishes. We went with the A5 wagyu upgrade with Spanish black truffles and it was a treat but we have had better A5. They mentioned that the beef regardless of the upgrade is fantastic and I believe them because everything we tried in the menu was outstanding.”
“If this restaurant doesn't get a Michelin star next week, I will be surprised and disappointed. The experience was fantastic despite my high expectations. Staff was engaging and welcoming. Servers were very helpful with descriptions and suggestions. And the Sommelier was knowledgeable. We enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu with elevated wine pairings. It was not a meal, but a pleasant journey. And contrary to the typical Michelin 4 hour dinner, the pace here at Zero was perfect, approx 2 hrs. Our table room was quiet and easy to converse. I would have liked something printed to take with me describing food/wine we enjoyed.”
