Scoundrel is a French restaurant in the Greenville neighborhood of Greenville.
“Service was impeccable, I think that’s the real truth in their recent Michelin star. Food was executed flawlessly which you’d expect from chef Joe Cash and his pedigree at Per Se and Noma. The hamachi crudo was my favorite dish overall - fresh, bright, but layered with complex umami, citrus and olive oil all blended into perfect harmony with a bonus little pesto and crunch on top. Wife enjoyed the filet and the coffee rub, I personally thought it was cooked perfectly with a nice crust but lacked in flavor. Duck was similar for me, rendered well but the skin kind of fell off as you ate it and without sauce it lacked a ton of flavor by itself - accoutrements were great though. Instead of dessert I had to try the chicken gnocchi because it’s a French place and my wife almost ordered and we bumped into a friend who echoed the the waiter saying it was incredible. Again, flawless execution, and probably the most flavorful dish next to the hamachi. All in all everything was tasty and the evening was lovely with cocktails and a nice barolo. We actually hit happy hour early and tried the main cocktail menu because it was so creative and they were excellent. I think their front of house helped spearhead the star, and the food will hopefully continue to evolve and get even better as the layers develop and flavors increase.”
“Tonight myself and my wife decided to finally try the local Michelin star restaurant. ( we also brought our 4 month old) we were greeted had to wait a min for seating even with a reservation but we understood they were trying to seat us somewhere comfortable for our baby’s sake. We were then met once we sat by such a lovely girl who was so courteous and professional and was the sweetest to our daughter. Then we got to meet Micah he was absolutely whole heartedly the best sweetest person ever. He treated us with such respect and loved talking about our daughter Amelia and complimenting her. The food amazing from the salad to the bread to the steak frites to the vegetarian pasta dish for my wife. All amazing, then met with an amazing chocolate cake. All around the best experience possible. Micah you’re absolutely amazing and a wonderful person.”
“Scoundrel is an excellent restaurant overall with some standout dishes but I feel like Michelin did them a disservice awarding them a star because they set guests up for disappointment. Our food was wonderful. The beef tartar was probably the best I’ve ever had and the branzino was another major highlight. We also enjoyed our cocktails. You could take this restaurant and place it anywhere and it would be a great restaurant. However, nothing about our meal or service would indicate it was a Michelin level experience. I’d categorize Scoundrel as an upscale Brassiere/Steakhouse restaurant which is fine but that’s something more in line with James Beard awards, not Michelin stars. I’m pretty sure the city of Greenville bought a star and Scoundrel was the lucky recipient as one of the more upscale places in town. I also wish they would implement a dress code. Multiple guest were dressed downright inappropriate and others were extremely casual. I should not have been the one to feel uncomfortable and over dressed because I wore a jacket (no tie) to a Michelin star restaurant.”
“The Scoundrel experience did not disappoint. From cocktails to dessert everything was amazing. We started with the table-side beef tartare with toast points. Then moved to the yellow fin tuna carpaccio which was my absolute favorite. It’s the kind of dish I will be thinking about for days to come. The duck and the pate were equally delicious. We thought with three appetizers and only one main dish we might still be hungry and although we did have room for dessert, we also took home to go boxes. Amazing meal! Cannot wait to return.”
“Scoundrel has easily become my favorite restaurant. Whether it’s happy hour at the bar, a weeknight dinner, or a special occasion, the experience is consistently excellent. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, with a strong understanding of both the food and cocktail menus, and the wine program is thoughtfully curated by their in-house sommeliers. The food is delicious every time. The branzino is a standout and something we order frequently. The beef tartare is also a favorite. Standout, delicious dishes we adore also include (and are not limited to) the oysters, caviar bites, carpaccio, bone marrow, crème brûlée, chocolate cake, duck frite fries, pasta, and Caesar salad— and the menu is perfect from start to finish. Scoundrel is the kind of place you return to often, confidently recommend, and think about fondly between visits.”
