Located in the iconic JW Marriott Essex House, Bourbon Steak New York is Chef Mina’s love letter to the classic American steakhouse. “Finally tried Michael Mina’s first New York restaurant and it did not disappoint. Located in the famed Essex House on Central Park South and has a commanding classic yet warm stylish presence. They start you with a King Crab amuse-bouche and the trio of fires and dipping sauces differently seasoned which is signature MM instead of bread. Had the Rib Cap with seared Foie Gras and a side of béarnaise. A favorite cut of mine that I’ve had at his Nashville and Las Vegas steak houses and it’s not usually available at other NYC steak houses. Great section of wines by the glass with very up burgundy (Red and White) and a very pleasant Oakville Cab. I started with the flavorful signature Tuna Tartar which is nicely prepare table side. For desert the brûlée cheesecake which was divine with the strawberries. Staff are all pros, engaging, and friendly. I look forward to a return visit to explore of more of MM’s inventive dishes. Single diner friendly with a welcoming bar that I look forward to dropping in on and having that great signature Martini 🍸 which is more of a Vesper and that just fine with me.”
“Our experience at Bourbon Steak was top-notch hospitality from start to finish. Aldo was our server and was amazing, along with Mark—they really made the night special. I had one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, and the tuna tartare was incredibly fresh and delicious. We also tried the Twinkie caviar, which was an interesting but surprisingly tasty twist. Even though we were stuffed, Aldo insisted on bringing out a complimentary crème brûlée cheesecake, which was amazing. The drinks were tasty and refreshing—highly recommend the Bee’s Knees. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area!”
“We had such a wonderful experience thanks to the amazing staff! Jenny and Mark were incredibly accommodating, super friendly, and attentive throughout our entire visit. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and their positive energy really made a difference. Beatrice, the hostess, was also absolutely fantastic. She greeted us so warmly and helped set the tone for a truly special experience. Her kindness & energy made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. On top of the exceptional service, the food was absolutely spectacular. Every dish was delicious and beautifully prepared. Overall, the experience was outstanding, and it’s clear this team genuinely cares about their guests. We’ll definitely be coming back!”
“It was a very nice surprise! I was staying at the Marriot Essex house in front of Central Park and the snow didn’t let us go to dinner to another place . So I make a reservation in the Bourbon Steak . Everything was really delicious and well cooked . Don’t miss the onion soup , it’s really amazing . The wagyu tartar and the truffle agnolotti my godddd ! And at the end the brûlée cheese cake awesome . Nice place with great illumination!”
“Their lamb is among the fattiest and most indulgent I have had at American restaurants. Many upscale places tend to trim off all the fat from lamb chops, which always feels like a pity for those of us who enjoy the fatty portions. Here, they keep it on. It can get a little rich if you eat too much, but it is undeniably fragrant and satisfying. The complimentary fries were also a highlight. The fries themselves come in three different flavors and the parsley version was especially good. The truffle dipping sauce was rich and well balanced. It honestly felt more thoughtful than the usual bread service. The rest of the dishes were all solid with no real disappointments. The only small drawback for me was that the dining room felt quite dim. The lighting is comfortable for the eyes and creates a nice atmosphere, but it is not very photo friendly. Perhaps the table lighting could be just a touch brighter.”
