Rubirosa is a neighborhood family operated Italian-American restaurant and pizzeria founded in 2009 by AJ Pappalardo. AJ's father, Giuseppe Pappalardo founded the Staten Island institution, Joe and Pat's. AJ opened Rubirosa to create an institution of his own In Manhattan. AJ was inspired by the family's 60+ year signature pizza recipe to create our pizzas served at Rubirosa. In addition to our famous pizza, we proudly offer Italian-American classics featuring a wide array of pastas made fresh in-house daily. Rubirosa is located in the heart of Nolita and its clientele bridges the gap between the old and new neighborhood regulars. Rubirosa's homey and comfortable atmosphere welcomes every occasion, from family-style group dining to an aperitivo and antipasti at our cozy bar.
“The tie-dye pizza so good. We order 2-3 boxes of pizza all the time. Wish it was easier to get a reservation but that’s okay. We ate inside once. They were nice to give us a table they don’t have a big space at all but we love the food so we are grateful.”
“Rubirosa serves the best pizza in NYC as far as we're concerned—it’s a must-visit every single time we are in the city. Our absolute favorite is the Tie-Dye pizza, which is just fantastic and perfectly executed on their signature thin crust. It’s a very popular, smaller space right on the edge of Little Italy, so it fills up fast. Your best bet is to secure a reservation well in advance or head over during off-peak hours to avoid massive wait times. Cannot recommend it enough!”
“We had a great dinner at Rubirosa. We didn’t have a reservation, so we had to wait around 45 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. At first we were a bit worried because we were there with our 3-year-old daughter and the atmosphere seemed very young and trendy, but we had absolutely zero issues. They accommodated us at a nice big table, the service was excellent, and everyone was very welcoming. They even had crayons for our daughter, which was a really nice touch. The pizza was amazing. We ordered a half-and-half Bianca and Supreme, and both were absolutely delicious. Even though the pizza is super thin, the quality of the ingredients and the base were top notch. One of the best pizzas we’ve had in NYC.”
“Estrella (forgive me if the name is wrong) waitered our table flawlessly. They were so welcoming and entertained the dietary requirements of my party. Smooth communication between the waiting staff and the kitchen ensured our meals were prepared as requested. Started off with the eggplant parm per Estrella’s recommendation. It was bomb. Then came the pasta and margherita pizza. Pizza was crackling thin so if that’s your thing, this is the place. Ingredients for the pasta and pizza were top notch, I didn’t even add salt or pepper while eating. The pasta was cooked till soft as my party doesn’t prefer al dente pasta. There are few things more beautiful than the exterior of this little restaurant. Inside, the low ceilings, dark furniture and nostalgic music add to the experience. I could feel the warmth and love in this business through the food and ambiance. It’s located in a cool walkable area with little trinket shops and cafes nearby. Washroom was clean and comfortable.”
“Fun, quintessential little Italy vibes of an established New York City restaurant. Great service, and menu is much brighter than just pizza. Braised beef braciole and short rib anglotti were favorites for our table. Reservations took extensive planning and setting a timer at midnight to jump on it, but totally worth it. We went on a cold day where wait times were short, but I don’t think this is typical. Waiter was particularly attentive to our food, allergies, and double checked with the kitchen on ingredients. The menu is not overwhelming and there’s a focused list of desserts and beverages. The kind of place where options have been carefully honed over years of service. We also tried the tie-dye and honey pie pizzas. Crust was exceptionally thin. This is what New York style pizza is traditionally known for. If this is your thing, you’ll love it. They have it down to a science. A definite repeat. Would rate 7.5/10 for the pizza experience, but all else was a solid 9+.”
