Salt + Charcoal is Williamsburg’s one of a kind Japanese Grill, located in the heart of Williamsburg. Preparation of our signature steaks start with our chef hand selecting each piece of beef at the purveyor. It is then dry aged for 28 to 50 days before charcoal-grilling using our unique crank grill. The result is a super tender steak with all of the umami trapped inside. We also have a wide selection of seafood, a raw bar, and Japanese inspired appetizers. Our full bar features original cocktails crafted by award winning mixologists and a variety of Japanese spirits, and wines specially crafted to pair with our food offerings.
“This place was amazing. We got the filet mignon and lobster. The matcha cake was to die for and our server Gwen was attentive and polite. Would go here again!”
“I cannot think about the food without getting slightly lightheaded from the pure pleasure it gave me. This is a masterclass on how good ingredients prepared exceptionally well can bring pure joy. Flawless! The only fault I could find was that the restrooms could use a thorough clean the ligh switch was dusty and looked grimy but the food made up for everything. They can take all my money going forward.”
“Food was Amazing. For the Appetizer we had the Crunchy Oyster which was tasty. We followed that up with the 30 day Dry aged porterhouse steak for 2 with a sides of S+C baked potatoes. For drinks we had the Pineapple Express. Food and drinks was a 5 outta 5! Will recommend”
“My recent visit to Salt + Charcoal was absolutely incredible for my birthday experience, from the moment we walked in, the ambiance was perfect cozy, intimate, and ideal for a special occasion. The food, a unique fusion of a Japanese steakhouse and grill, was sensational. We started with the tuna tartare which was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared by our waiter. The diced avocado and wasabi provided the perfect amount of creaminess and kick, and rolling it ourselves in the crispy nori sheets added a fun, interactive touch to the Japanese style preparation. The oysters were an absolute amazing. They arrived sizzling, bathed in a rich, flavorful soy butter garlic sauce with a pop of fresh cilantro and lime zest. The balance of the smoky grill and the savory butter was perfect, and the texture was plump and crunchy. For the star of the show was the NY strip steak. The New York Strip, cooked medium-rare, and it was perfect. The unique charcoal grilling method gave it an incredible, smoky char on the outside, while the inside remained juicy, tender, and robustly flavored with a satisfying bite. Beyond the exquisite cuisine, what truly made the night memorable was the outstanding service. My waiter, Patrick was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly throughout the entire meal even when it came down to making the payment hint hint Whitney Houston debit card 🙂. Patrick explained each dish with enthusiasm, offered brilliant recommendations, and ensured our glasses were never empty, timing each course perfectly so our never felt rushed. Salt + Charcoal offers a truly refined yet welcoming experience. It's on the pricier side, but for the quality of food and the impeccable service, it's well worth the splurge for a memorable evening. I can't recommend it enough and will definitely be back!”
“Service is very slow. Ordered a second martini when the food arrived, and 20-25 mins later, still did not receive it. Waitress gave an excuse that downstairs is a large party, but frankly for a table of two spending over $400 on a tab, I’d expect a single drink to get out to me in under twenty minutes. This was not a great way to end the night, and the waitress continuously was hard to get a hold of as she’s seemingly manning far too many tables. Nothing done to make it right, other than an excuse and apology. On top of this: 1. Unexplainable credit card fee. Seriously? 2. Extremely loud environment, can’t hear the server and she can’t hear me. Will not return. One & done.”
