“We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at the Golden Sparrow. It was delicious and beautiful! Highlights were the duck spring rolls and the peach and prosciutto crostini but everything was so tasty! It was a wonderful meal. They treated us so well giving us an “on the house” dessert that was outstanding! My cocktail was gorgeous and so delicious!”

“Advertised as a tapas bar, the selection of tapas was surprisingly limited and titled as Flavours to Share. The top marks takes baked brie, followed by brussel sprouts, beef tataki, and finally chicken nuggets Korean style. The batter was so thick, that few pieces didn't have any chicken. All dishes were pleasingly garnished and flavors described in the menu came through. Despite not having reservation on Saturday evening, the table was found. The service was a bit overwhelming and encroaching on our privacy, instead of concentrating on meeting our needs. One of servers looked a bit scary, and made me uncomfortable, but maybe it was a robotic device, so I contained my reaction. Unfortunately the noise level in this place is beyond my tolerance. I took a stroll to visit the washroom and surveyed the long, dark layout of the restaurant. It seems to be filled with average people dining, not a rambunctious crowd. I wonder, if there is a way to install some soundproofing devices. Definitely not a place for a quiet, intimate dinner. To carry any conversation one has to yell, which is not the way I like to dine”

“I don’t usually write negative reviews. I love trying new places, travel often for work, and genuinely enjoy experiencing good food and drinks. But after tonight, I feel like this needs to be said. We went to Golden Sparrow to celebrate both my wife’s birthday and mine. We were really looking forward to it after seeing it recommended by Edify, but the experience went downhill pretty quickly. We were seated with the “Golden Hour” happy hour menu, only to be told shortly after that none of the drinks were actually on special because they were rolling out a new cocktail menu. That was frustrating, especially since we had booked early specifically to take advantage of happy hour. If that is the case, the menus and online information should be updated, as people make decisions based on what is advertised. Since cocktails were not on special, we ordered espresso martinis. It took over 25 minutes for them to arrive, and when they did, they were far too sweet and tasted like straight simple syrup. We sent them back, and while the second round was better, they were still nothing memorable. While waiting, we ordered a couple of appetizers, the Sparrow Tots and the Brussels sprouts. The tots were average and lacked flavour. The Brussels sprouts were worse, very bitter and barely seasoned. Not what you would expect from a place like this. Service did not help the situation. It was inattentive and impersonal throughout the night. No one walked us through the menu, there was no mention of any features, and we were barely checked on. Our food was dropped off by someone else, and overall it just felt like there was very little care for the experience. At that point, we decided not to order entrees and went somewhere else to finish the evening. Overall, a very disappointing experience. There are plenty of better spots downtown. I would spend your time and money there instead.”
