Contemporary French restaurant in Silicon Valley
“A truly hidden gem! The meal exceeded meals at both Chez TJ and The Plumbed Horse. It is in an unassuming location, but do not let this fool you, it is easily on par with a Michelin star restaurant. I have dined at one star, two star and three star Michelin and the amazing flavors of the dishes and the quality of the dishes is easily one star Michelin. The service was perfect in not pretentious, but professional and friendly and astute of the meal and service they were delivering. I challenge all foodies out there to try this truly hidden gem. Additionally, if you are gluten free, the chef did an amazing job, as it never felt like a compromised plate, but a gluten free attuned plate that was as if it was the primary plate. If you are gluten free this is the place for fine dining. The bison here is the most tender I have ever tasted and was as tender as a beef filet of the the finest quality melt in your mouth. The soft shell crabs with the caramelized avocado was amazingly tender but with a perfect crisp. Their wine tasting was spot on and I am a picky wine enthusiast. I highly recommend the chef’s tasting menu as I am confident that you will be be amazed by the flavors. I rarely write this type of review as I am a foodie and this is just such a hidden gem to try for yourself.”
“We really enjoy the food! We have been couples of French restaurants in the area, but we never tried this place after 20 years here. We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. I was surprised that the food was really good, and the service was great. The only cons is the location. The nearby Neighbourhood wasn’t a nice place. But once you are inside the restaurant, it’s very classic French decor style. We really enjoyed our dinner there.”
“I was lucky enough to be invited to Le Papillon twice over the past year for business dinners, and I simply have to rave about this restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the service stands out. The servers are wonderfully meticulous and have a way of making every guest feel important and well taken care of. Even during a busy evening, they remain attentive without being intrusive, which makes the whole dining experience feel relaxed and special. During my visits, I had the chance to try a few different starters. The first time, I had the kampachi tartare, and the second time I tried the Dungeness crab soufflé. Honestly, I can’t decide which one I would order again because they were both so delicious and beautifully prepared. For the main course, I’ve had both the duck and the beef tenderloin, and both were absolutely top-notch in quality and execution. The dishes were flavorful, well balanced, and clearly made with care. The desserts were also wonderful and a perfect way to end the meal. Considering the quality of the food and service, the price for the four-course dinner menu feels very reasonable. The portions are quite generous as well—several people in my party ended up asking for to-go boxes because we simply couldn’t finish everything. The only small downside is that parking in the area can be a bit tight, but that’s really the only negative I can think of. Overall, I highly recommend this French restaurant to anyone in the area. It’s a fantastic spot for a date night or a business dinner where you want to enjoy great food while still being able to have a good conversation.”
“Le Papillon in San Jose offers a wonderful fine dining experience that combines excellent service, beautifully prepared dishes, and a warm, elegant atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were attentive without ever being intrusive, striking just the right balance between professionalism and friendliness. It set the stage for a truly enjoyable evening. The food itself was fantastic. Every dish was presented with care and precision, and the flavors were both refined and memorable. The rack of lamb stood out as one of the highlights — tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly as it should be. Each bite was rich and satisfying. For dessert, we tried the Grand Marnier soufflé, and it was absolutely delightful: light, airy, and paired perfectly with fresh berries and cream. It was a beautiful way to end the meal and one that I would happily order again on my next visit. The atmosphere inside Le Papillon is intimate and inviting. It feels special without being pretentious, making it a great choice for celebrating an occasion or simply enjoying a high-quality meal. The dining room is elegant and quiet, which added to the overall sense of ease and comfort. Overall, Le Papillon deserves every bit of its strong reputation. With exceptional food, attentive service, and a charming setting, it easily earns five stars. I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in the Bay Area.”
“Had a wonderful mid-week dinner at Le Papillon with Nicky and Kristen. We ordered the tasting menu, which came with a few extra bites from the kitchen. The highlights: • Chilled poached lobster with corn custard, kumquat, and caviar – silky and balanced. • Maryland soft shelled crab – crisp, delicate, and flavorful. • Rabbit terrine – my personal favorite, though Kristen’s least, earthy and refined. • Breast of pheasant with confit fig, pine nut, and Madeira jus – a great balance of sweet and savory. • Tenderloin of bison with green peppercorns and tempura enoki mushrooms – bold, tender, and beautifully presented. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the pacing of the menu made the evening feel relaxed and special. Overall, a thoughtful seasonal menu and a great spot for a fine dining experience in San Jose.”
